command prompt current user syntax

I'm trying to put together a simple batch file that will copy and run a few files, and I was wondering if there is a way to specify the current user's desktop.

For example, instead of trying to guess the user's account name, I.E. "C:\Documents and Settings\Joe Schmoe\Desktop\"

Is there a default option? I.E. "C:\Documents and Settings\Current User\Desktop\"

And yes, I'm looking to navigate to the desktop folder specifically. I apologize if it sounds like I'm bumbling ;)

Yep, you can use C:\documenta and settings\%username%\desktop .

Bad idea. What if the user has their default Windows install on a drive other than C:?

so would I use %systemroot% in that case? Err no, that would be the \windows folder :s

Dessimat0r: good point, I never thought about that. I automatically assumed that he had installed windows to the C: drive.

I wonder if there is a variable just for Desktop though, for instances when the desktop folder has been reassigned away from the userprofile folder via registry tweak or even tweakui.

Here is a site that lists several place holders for Windows. The site is in French, but it's pretty easy to figure out (but if you need a translation, Babel Fish is your friend :D )
