XF86Config

Recommended Posts

Am I doing something obviously wrong here?

I've run the NVIDIA installer, and updated XF86Config as normal. Have I done something wrong? I don't see the NVIDIA logo when X starts and glxinfo reports that no glx is available.

PS I'm running this on Fedora Core 2, Test 3.

It looks good. That is, your "Screen0" uses your "Videocard0", and "Videocard0" is set to "nvidia" for a driver.

If glxinfo shows that you don't have your hardware acceleration enabled, then I would suspect that the module is not loaded...

Try typing /sbin/lsmod | grep nvidia and see if it responds by listing your nvidia module. If not, then I suspect that something went wrong during the install process.

Thanks, as soon as this download I've got going finishes I'll boot back into Fedora and post it. Though, the install process did seem to go OK (no errors were displayed anyway).

Something went wrong.

Try again, and post the output (if possible) on here. It may make a log of the process (it should tell you during or immediately after the install). If so, post that here, and we will take a look at it.

Every time I update my kernel, I need to re-run and compile the nvidia module into it, so I am getting quite good at it.

OK I've found the problem...FC2 seems to use the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf to configure X.

Anyway, this version of Fedora is so unstable I can't stand to use it. I know it is a test release but it seems to be much much worse than test 2. :( Oh well, I'll see if I can report the problems, anyway.

just remember if you are using the official redhat kernel that the nvidia drivers are broken and will not work becuase the kernel has 4kstacks enabled. you will have to recompile your own kernel until nvidia releases a new driver with the fix.

edit: i forgot....what problems are you having with stability? my test install was running for the past 40 days before I decided to compile a new kernel and its still working fine for me. I have kept it updated with rawhide updates so i basically have test 3 on my machine to.
