SeaClearly
Well since I have an iBook which does what I need it too do I really haven't looked into anything else. But one of my friends was just given a few PowerMac G4 towers. I think about 5 or so. They all have either 400 or 500Mhz G4 CPUs. They all have anywere between 512MB and 1GB of RAM. Now my question is how well with these system runs Mac OS X panther. What could be changed or added for faster speeds if even needed. I'm going to take one of these for myself but since I won't use it for anything like photoshop how well would it run. I will use it for stuff like iPhoto, iMovie (basic) and iTunes mostly. I'm most likely going to take the 400Mhz G4 with 256MB of RAM and add a 512MB stick I have sitting around. So with Mac OS X Panther with a 400Mhz G4 CPU with 768MB of RAM would I even bother running my basic apps and OS on this.
Tim Dorr Veteran Posted April 29, 2004 Veteran Share Posted April 29, 2004 Yeah, with the basics you should be fine. As long as you're not trying to run Final Cut Pro or Motion on there, you should be set ;)
Preemo
While we're on the subject of Mac's and whatnot, anybody know if Apple is releasing the G5 for the notebook? :shifty:

Fusion
My university's news paper was entirely run on Powermac 400's using adobe products (photoshop, illustrator, indesign, etc...) and they got by. Will it be the best experience? No. Will it work? Yes. You will also be without quartz extreme unless you upgrade the gpu. I believe those models came stock with a rage128 card.
