Iguana
Can the mods/admins please enforce stricter penalties for the really stupid posts in General Discussion? I'm talking about the "My x00 post!!" Since these celebratory posts are reserved for the 1000 marker, I really hate spammers who constantly break this rule. Lately, there has been an influx of these threads. Just a suggestion...
....
You mean threads like this one? https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=162660 It was closed a minute after it was opened. Ruled are strictly enforced on threads like those.
Iguana
I know that threads such as that one are immediately closed, but what I meant by stricter penalties was maybe a warning or something...?
KC
A warning would be nice for them, if they don't get warned already.
matt74441
A warning might be a little harsh. Telling them once is sufficient, if you have to tell them again, then give them a warning.

People just don't seem to get it though. If there are warnings enforced, it will stop future offenders from posting garbaje. :)

....
How do you know whether a warning was issued or not? :ninja:
Iguana
no one is telling you to read those posts, just let the mods do the job of closing them Your point is noted. However, you should understand that spam is what clutters this board, and makes it slower, since Neowin does not prune the forums (I think). How do you know whether a warning was issued or not? A-ha! Now you're just being mysterious BOOG.
MxxCon
since they are such post count ######, i would reset their post count, and maybe lock it for a while too
Tim Dorr Veteran Posted May 1, 2004 Veteran Share Posted May 1, 2004 since they are such post count ######, i would reset their post count, and maybe lock it for a while too Actually, their post count should be reset to the negative of the amount they posted. Same with everyone that posts in that thread, too....

Wannes
I totally agree timdorr, those people are such a postwhores ;) lol  How about you do it when the thread title contains "posts" or "x000" then it automatically gets post count locked. Mmm since Neowin is the land of weirdness, why don't we make the post count mechanism work the other way round, starting from now everytime you post a legit post, deduct one from your total post count, and if you spam, add two, this way the higher your post count is, the more likely spammer you are :p
KC
How do you know whether a warning was issued or not? :ninja: I can read mods minds. A ability that I gained after a tramatic event in my life. I try to block it out most of the time but when the BOOG is on I can't resist.
bangbang023 Veteran Posted May 1, 2004 Veteran Share Posted May 1, 2004 didnt neowin have some people with negative post counts at some point? i vaguely remember it, like mid-2002 before i even joined.. maybe it was another site.. yeah, it was us. When there was a pretty large database loss, some members came back with a neg. post count and almost all members lost posts. I, myself, lost only about 400 or so, but others lost a good 1,000 or more.
Banzai
The mods can?t do much more than what there doing now, what do you want them to do approve all posts before they?re posted.
Wannes
now that would be crazy. just leave it as it is. mods will close it, just dont reply.

omgomgwtf
A warning might be a little harsh. Telling them once is sufficient, if you have to tell them again, then give them a warning. Ban their account, their IP and the entire IP range they're in on. Give them some incentive to go be a dumb ****** somewhere else.
mojomonkee
that sounds like a great idea, ban their entire ip range so people in the same range can't join either! yea!
