Leaving Mail On Server With Mail.app

Recommended Posts

When I get my eMac in a few weeks, I want it to check and download my email.

I want it to leave the emails on the server though, instead of downloading and deleting them. Is this possible?

Yes, this also works for POP3. There is an option in the advanced settings for each email account in Mail.app that allows you to leave a copy of every message on the server, or to delete these copies at a specified time.

To further drive the point home, here's a screenshot:

Note the checkbox for "Remove copy from server when retrieving message:"

turn that off to leave it there.

I'm really going to love this Mac.

This is probably impossible.........but I currently have OE to read my mails. Is there anyway that I can 'point' Mail.app to look at the inboxes on my main PC, so that it is updated in real-time? (if you get what I mean).

The obtuse answer is yes: but you're going to have to learn a whole lot about *nix systems, and even more about programming. The more realistic one is no.

oh btw, the leaving messages in accounts is on by default ;)

Wouldn't the message download each time you checked your mail?

it would be marked as read, so it wouldn't download it agian

You could if you wanted use Mozilla Thunderbird on both Windows and Mac, and use the same profile folder. That isn't too hard...
