Few PowerBook Questions....

Recommended Posts

Can't seem to find the answers anywhere, so I'll ask them here...

I am interested in buying a PowerBook, but I got some questions.

a) Do I need Airport Extreme Base to use the internet, or can I use my D-Link Router?

b) How exactly does the WiFi internet system work (I Can use it from basically anywhere?)

I have more, but I forgot em so I'll post em later.

Thanks!

Next question:

Is it worth getting a PowerBookG4, or should I wait until the G5s. I don't need my PowerBook now, I have the option of waiting.

if you don't need it now, wait for the G5.

It depends how long the wait is, I think the chance that G5 PBs will be at WWDC is slim.

Also, buying a mac now isn't a bad idea, they have high resale so you could always ebay it.

Finally, even when the G5 PBs come out, it would be best to wait for a Rev. B model because those usually have bug fixes from the previous models plus speed bumps.

my guess is that the g5 powerbook is coming at macworld 2005. one can always hope it would come in 2 months time.

but... if you want a powerbook then get it now, the g5 isn't that much faster in single processor systems (it was built for dp). so the g5 in the powerbook will prob be more of a marketing thing. and its not like your notebook could have 8 gb of ram anyways.

having said that, i would wait for the g5 powerbook for a new form factor. i think apple would do something "cool" since they would be changing processors, like they did with the TiBooks.

Don't bet on the outside changing. The iBooks got upgraded from G3 to G4 and saw slight case revisions. If there are any outside changes, it will probably be some small tweaks here and there...
