!Flood Control!

Recommended Posts

The error returned was:

Flood control is enabled on this board, please wait 30 seconds before replying or posting a new topic

I see this all the time, and I often am ready to give a complete honest answer to a forum in less than 30 seconds. What practical purpose does a 30 second flood control serve? Why not 10 seconds?

It may not be good for the 'true' members who want to post acceptable content. It's for the 'spammers'. Neowin is a large board which will attract a lot of losers who want to spam. Be thankful for 30 seconds, some boards I visit are 90 seconds and 60 seconds.

It prevents users from posting "lol" in one thread and then running off to another thread to post " " and then running to another thread and posting " "

It has only a minor effect on us intellectual giants that can produce meaningful posts within 30 seconds.

Second thought: It also encourages users to use the EDIT button as I just did (rather than create a new post).

"Intellectual giants": Where did you think that up?

And yes, it is mildly annoying to me sometimes. But then again, it's not often I actually post that quickly either...

it aint that bad, by the time you read a thread and thought up of a helpful answer those 30 seconds answers are over already.

Its very rare where you don't have a 30 second window between posting; the limit forces you to think about your post, and stops mindless posts like "lol". lol.

I can understand why there is a posting flood control, but why is there one on the search feature?

search is very DB intensive (relativly), and thus limiting it servers people killing the server.

yep, both can be set differently. why would you use search every <20 seconds anyways? make your querry specific. :)

Solution to 30 second posting limit: Type with one finger. That should slow you down enough :p

typing with one finger is hard. :p

yeah, 30 seconds isnt bad at all.. its a bit of a nuisance when i'm trying to post a bunch of pictures, none of which are hosted, and i have to do them all in seperate posts as attachments. but i can deal with it.
