Storm
Ok.... Im reading a topic, where someone is asking for a download manager for IE. Then the thread gets ruined by trolls "Stuff IE, use firefox", Cant the neowin team do something about it? PLEASE
-=SD=-
I agree, I liked the one thread about a popup blocker for myie2 which turned into 6+ pages discussing firefox..
Chode
I also agree. 7 times out of 10, when a new Firefox build is releases or someone has a question regarding the Opera browser, someone has comments like "Use Firefox" or "Firefox blocks ads better"

Envark
It does not bother me. I wish moderators would let the thread morph various directions. Down with censorship.
Zetter
But it's true: Firefox has many more features than IE, it has support for many more extensions than IE IE hasn't changed a lot in over 3 years. Many IE problems can be solved (which there are many) by moving to firefox. I guess people think that they are just being helpful.
Fred Derf Veteran Posted May 9, 2004 Veteran Share Posted May 9, 2004 But it's true: Firefox has many more features than IE, it has support for many more extensions than IEIE hasn't changed a lot in over 3 years. Many IE problems can be solved (which there are many) by moving to firefox. I guess people think that they are just being helpful. I have seen a new religion and its name is Mozilla. All hail to Mozilla. And on the first day, former Netscape employees said "Let there be a browser called Firebird". And it wasn't good because some lame open-source database had already taken that name. So on the next day, former Netscape employees said "Let it instead be referred to as FireFox". And it was good. And on the third day, former Netscape employees said "Let there be an email client and we will call it Thunderbird". And it too was good. And on the fourth day, former Netscape employees said "That really doesn't fit anymore. Shouldn't we call it ThunderFox?". And yet this wasn't good. And on the fifth day, former Netscape employees said "Well, we'll give it a new logo that looks more like FireFox". And again, it was good. And on the sixth day, former Netscape employees sent hypnotic messages out to their users that said "Thou shalt extole the virtues of Firebird, er, ah, Firefox to all those who would not believe. Let them not worship false gods in the name of Microsoft or Opera". And it was good. And on the seventh day, former Netsacpe employees said "Screw this, we can't manage 15% even on a tech site like Neowin".

Si Veteran Posted May 9, 2004 Veteran Share Posted May 9, 2004 At least there is someone that sensible, you dont realise how annoying it is, a) for the thread starter b) for people who dont use and hate FF I understand, but you can't really have a 'do not advocate firefox' rule, more a 'stay on topic or feel my wrath' rule, I guess this would need to be strengthened # Posts in a particular forum need to stay on topic. If you want to talk about something that is drastically removed from the topic of a forum, please take it to General Discussion. General Discussion was set up and designed for members to discuss issues not related to a specific forum section. We welcome most general conversation in the General Discussion, but discourage it from other forums.Use a title that describes the content of your post. Don't use all caps or special characters to draw attention. Firefox posts are not 'drastically removed' but yes, there are a lot
Fotix
If I had a Firefox problem and posted it asking for help, I know I wouldn't want some retard interjecting "GET MAC! SWITCH TAH SAFARI! SUXXORS!" or "IE RULES! FIREFUZZ IS POOP!" I'd want to shave their nipples off with a chainsaw at the moment I saw that come up. Hehe. I'm just joking of course. I'm not like Pvt. England.

Homer
oh man... this thread... lmao. Storm I totally agree with you, I personally hate Firefox and one of the reasons I hate it is because of the amount of ********S that come through the forums trolling it and spouting off about it. Knock it off, if people want to use IE, LET THEM!
Daniel F. Administrators Posted May 9, 2004 Administrators Share Posted May 9, 2004 (edited) lets keep this topic to firefox trolls pls. From my point of view its similer to windows vs mac. You have zelots either side. if they are pushing the bounderies just report to mod. Or even better dont feed them and keep to topic failing that hold on till ipb v2 so you can just set ignore there posts.

Wannes
sometimes i do post get firefox simply because the issue is way to common ie related but sometimes i do try to help out. you can try introduce people to the software and if they dont like it then just agree, if they do like it then they may stick to it. ;)

john smith 1924 Veteran Posted May 9, 2004 Veteran Share Posted May 9, 2004 I do empathize some what, but i really think its a deserving cause and as such am more than happy to recommend it to any one (and everyone). It's free software that works very very well, and i can't honestly see why any one would want to stay on IE after using it. IT Evangalism : its great :p
