What fonts do people have preinstalled with their Windows x installations? I want to know, because I am creating a website, and don't want to include fancy fonts if the person on the recieving end wont be able to see them! So far, I know these:

* Arial (pronounced the same way as the washing up liquid? (sub question) :) )

* Times New Roman

Surely there must be more?

MS Serif

Verdana

Helevicta

Geneva

Courier New

If you are unsure just type in the html code (or css :))

Seperate by comma's in order of preference so if one browser can't view Tahoma for example then it will turn out to be Arial for them.

Personally, Tahoma and Verdana, with ClearType on, look bad-ass.

Part of the stylesheet of the Neowin Forum;

FONT-FAMILY: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;

It is best to do it like this, instead of one font. Also it is good to use Cascading Style Sheets, they cut down the length of HTML code in websites.

PS: anyone with extensive knowledge of Netscape 6.x styles and commands, pls contact me, Neowin looks crap with it :(

We need it to look just like IE (maybe with a second NS stylesheet, I dunno)

I think CSS is more of an IE specialty, since IE4 there has been increasing support in each new version.

If anyone has Netscape 6.x then I would like to know what my site looks like :s ... probably looks worse than it does in IE :(

BTW;

Neobond: your site not only pleases, it has a nice layout and looks sic :)

:D

Well.. I'm in Mozilla right now, off my Linux box..

It's not to pretty.. Mainly, just font sizes and table errors..

I doubt it'll ever look as good as it does in IE6.

Developing consistant cross platform sites can be a real pain... strong reliance on style sheets and XHTML is your best bet at this point (both should be tested for validation regularly using the tools at www.w3c.org).

I took many a versions and lots of tweaking, but I've finally been able to develop a site that looks consist on all browsers that support current standards (from IE6 to Konquerer).

Not trying to self promote, but I've got a growing list sites promoting XHTML and related techniques hosted at http://www.badassgeek.com/bookmarks. Take a look, steal some code, learn something new...

I think I'll try Netscape again, just to see what everyting looks like...

After all not everyone (8.2% according to the neowin forum poll) uses IE!
