Wannes
Dear Neowin staff, Would it be possible to enable Invision Board's build-in thumbnail feature for attachments? I run a 1024*768 resolution and when scrolling through the desktop thread (and some other pictures threads) is annoying that the tables always expand. :( Can you please enable the feature and set the thumbnail size to 640*(xxx)? Desktops will be shrunk down with a preview function and the user can then click the preview to see the full desktop (in a new window). If interested this can be enabled under System Settings >> Topics, Posts & Polls >> Show uploaded images in post?. Thanks in advance, it would make browsing so much easier for a lot of us. :) Kind regards, [a fire chronicle]
Frank
This used to bug the crap out of me, but now I am running 1600 x 1200 so it doesnt bother me. If they enabled this feature, would we be able to click on the pic to see the full size?
bangbang023 Veteran Posted May 18, 2004 Veteran Share Posted May 18, 2004 It's just more work for the server. I don't think it's really necessary.

(Y) bangbang, i believe that IPb has compressed that so it won't cause that much server load. you could always give it a trial base and when it does not work out disable it again. :)

Toxikk Veteran Posted May 18, 2004 Veteran Share Posted May 18, 2004 well, i think it may be a good idea. it saves people from having to download full images... therefore, if you want to see it, you click it. besides, res is not the only issue here. what about dial-up users? they have to download them too... its on my list actually..... mmm optimize. Tim Dorr Veteran Posted May 18, 2004 Veteran Share Posted May 18, 2004 Ok, in 1.3, the "thumbnail" images are just the full image with the HTML <img> tag set to display the image sized smaller. It will not save you from downloading the full image on a 56K connection. IPB 2.0 actually resizes the image itself when posting and stores the thumbnail on disk. This means the only cost to the server is when the upload is made, after that the image is pulled from disk without the need to regenerate. Dazzla Veteran Posted May 22, 2004 Veteran Share Posted May 22, 2004 They said nothing being added or changed until we reach 2. And if you're in the desktop thread what do you expect to see but desktops? You can't go into a 56k heavy thread and complain that you have to scroll vertically, it's dumb. I hate the thumbnails feature. All it does is make the server do more work and means an extra click to see what I want to see.
Iain
If people resize like they're meant to, then scrolling isn't really an issue. Well, not if you're on a nice enough resolution.
Wannes
Don't use 640x480 :p 1024*768. :p ill get my 20" dell monitor soon so then ill be fine. never mind then.
ozgeek
People, some people can not aviod to buy a new monitor just because of some sites. I think Internet Explorer has a feature called "Reize images if too big to fit on screen". Use that. a toolbar will come up, click one button to make bigger.
