Braces: How am I suppose to eat?

Recommended Posts

Once you get use to them it's ok. Sometimes you even find them fun...I use to always stick ice cubes to my braces... But yeah harder food was always a problem, I must have broken atleast 10 within my 2.5 years. The worst thing to eat is corn on the cob, not because its hard (you figure out a way) but because that really gets stuck in your teeth, your just yellow mouth. But you can kinda figure out how to suck it out of your braces, I called it "The Vacuum Procedure"...you just put your lip over your braces...and suck in air. :p But popcorn and other stuff can be a pain...but they eventually go. I even missed my braces a bit when they left me

it'll go away in a couple a weeks dont worry. Ive had braces for a LONG ass time (not anymore tho) and i remember that i went to the airport once and my braces set off the metal detector lol i didnt know that was possible. oh well back on topic

Your suppose to have wax if you get cut up like someone said before. But you could be all "big and bad" and after a while you dont feel the pain of you getting cut up (your cheeks will be busted open pretty bad i still have scars but after a while u dont care and dont do nething hehe)

Holy ****. Scars? I haven't used the wax yet, since I figure the longer I endure it, the sooner my mouth will conform to the braces. But if it's gonna cause scars.. I might wanna use the wax. Wait, the scars are inside your mouth right? Are they visible? I didn't know this was possible.

Right now, my lips are cut up like crazy, and hurts so much.

I had my lips cut up so badly they were bleeding and I had to get stiches because my face got cremated

^ lies

well the truth is that I do have braces

they only hurt when they tighten them, and they don't hurt at all when they DO tighten them

they only suck because it's harder to brush your teeth

I don't like mine, but I want straighter teeth :)

I haven't had any trouble eating with them, except w/ my retainer... I just took it out everytime I ate and then I lost it for about 4 months and put it back in and hey it works good.... except they had to cut a lot of it so it would fit in my mouth again

Well now it's officially been one week. I can eat semi-normally now. The hard part is biting meat off with my front teeth. For some reason, my front teeth don't feel as strong as they used to. Anyways, for meat, I have to cut it up into bite size pieces and chew with my back teeth. Most other soft things I can eat fine now, like potatoes and stuff. My lips don't hurt anymore and have almost healed completely. The braces are no longer cutting up my cheek and even those cuts have almost healed. Food still gets stuck in my braces sometimes, but it's reduced greatly.

All, in all, it feels fine now. A little extra work brushing and eating, but not enough to kill me. I haven't completely gotten used to it yet; still waiting for my front teeth to get back to normal. But I'm guessing, in a week, I'll be able to eat normally again! :D

I'll update in another week.

  • 3 weeks later...

Yah! I'm at the 4 week mark!

Anyways, my braces are perfectly normal now and I feel no pain. Food still gets stuck, and brushing is still a pain, but I can live with it.

BUT... I was eating chocolate [pretty hard chocolate], and I bent one of the wires upward. I'll be leaving town tomorrow so I won't be able to go to the orthodontist for at least 4 days. Is that alright? Should I get it fixed asap, or is ok to wait a bit? I attached a pic of my problem. Is it normal for that to happen? How will it be fixed, and how long should it take?

Thanks.

I had braces like 2 years ago and i couldnt eat for like the first week or 2.... but after that its like eating normal. I didnt floss either when i had braces they gave me a small round tooth brush that went up in there instead.. maybe u cood ask them if they had that its alot easier

ummmm, no

the brace shouldnt bend like that.

Are you sure about that? It's not in one of the normal places. It's in one of the spaces where my teeth was pulled, so there's a large gap for the wire to cross.

--EDIT--

Wow. I just realized how retard my question was. Obviously, it's not normal for this to happen. But would it be difficult to fix? And is it alright to let it be for a couple days?
