sure, things phase out, such as 16 bit programs for windows 3.1... but 16 bit still runs on 32bit platforms in most cases.... so Win32 stuff will still have to run on the next generation of operating systems...

It does, and will, through WoW (Windows on Windows) in 64bit versions of Windows. All current versions of Windows use WoW to run 16bit applications, I believe.

I'm sorry but I have to say I think VB is crap, even VB.NET.... I hate using english with no brackets, so I use c#, java, and sometimes c++.

Too bad c# isn't included with this package, would be so perfect for me.

VB usually means VB6. VB.NET is a new version of VB with tons of new features and lots of changes, made to run on the .NET platform. C# is another language that runs on the .NET platform, and is the preferred language for .NET applications. VB.NET and C# are different languages, but you can get almost the same results with either language.

Don't expect to get your shipments until a month later guys :/ I've recieved a few free items from ms on the net, and it takes forever to get them, usually it takes a month to six weeks.

area91, have to agree with that, but once you're past that stage I find it harder rather than easier to use less brackets and syntax.

That said, I'm still getting the free VB.NET and (although incredibly unlikely) they'll mess up and put c# or c++ in instead :D

If not, a copy of a M$ IDE is nice (Never actually used a M$ IDE, let's see... dev c++, borland c#, some other java ide). I dunno I guess the main reason I hated VB was that there were no freeware IDE's for it, and so I ended up jus using the learning edition until I finished my program and had my friend compile it. I love how many ide's there are for .NET now.

Whatever, I'm probably just going crazy. It's always a good thing tho when Microsoft starts handing out free stuff.

you can get the SDK from MS and It has all of the compilers, examples and such. All it is missing the the IDE, which yousound like you don't need.

I already use Borland c# IDE, but it's pretty buggy on my system and crashes freqently, and sharpdevelop seemed a lot different and it's auto-complete was weird... So I thought their (Microsoft's) c# IDE might be nice.

Oh, and before anyone mentions it, I guess I really am going crazy b/c in my last post I said I didn't use any Microsoft IDE's, but then talked about VB Learning Edition.

So just screw whatever I said before
