Pop Goes the GMail

PGtGM has been discontinued. Please use http://www.gnotify.com/gpopper/ instead!

PGtGM sits between you GMail account and your email client, converting messages from the web based mailbox into POP3 messages that a program such as Outlook Express or Firebird can understand.

POP3 server now fully works. You are able to download gmail emails through any email client. SMTP server appears to work.

Please post any bugs you find in the login process to the thread, or problems displaying messages.

THE CRASH ERROR ON VERSION CHECKING

Is a .NET bug caused by having more than 50 protocol binds on your network card.

Each protocol is a bind, so if you have 11 on each card, and 5 network cards then .net sockets fail to initialize.

You should be able to fix this problem by going into device manager, showing hidden devices on view menu, and disabling anything that isn't important.

two questions:

1.) is the source code available yet? I was overjoyed when I saw this was written in .NEt (C# or VB?)

2.) if the source is not available, would it be difficult for pop goes the gmail to take the username and password from the POP3 and SMTP sessions, the way yahoo pops does (http://yahoopops.sourceforge.net/)?

I ask because I do not run any non-essential programs in the background on my desktop. Even with a gig of ram and 3.6+GHz of proc I still like to keep things to a bare minimum, so my games can run at LUDICROUS speed. I have another box in my house that runs yahoo pops and would presumably run pop goes the gmail so that my mail client on the big machine just connects to those. And considering my GF just got a gmail invite (from me ;)) it would be nice to both use the same g-mail proxy.

It will be released when gmail goes public. Until then it is only available to donators.

2. Yes, i plan to do it this way in later versions.

I have a problem with PGtGM.

I currently use version 0.9.

Whenever I open PGtGM, it complains that the ports are in use, and tells me to use another port.

It didn't happen when I used version 0.7.

I use Outlook 2003, Outlook Express 6, and Thunderbird 0.7. I want to know if any of them have issues with PGtGM 0.9.

"An error occired while sedning mail. The mail server responded: PgtGM does not allow external relay from other accounts. Please verify that your email address is correct in your mail preferences and try again."

This is as much a question as anything.

There is now pop converter software for hotmail, yahoo, and gmail. Three seperate programs. Why can't there be one program that would support all host? I have to start and stop each of them since they use the same ports.

That's a great idea...have it load when you load your mail program and close (by choice, of course) when you have it closed.

there needs to be a way of clearing the log, i left PGtGM running checking my email every minute and the log fills up quickly, i'm assuming that it is stored in RAM right? this could eat up too much RAM on my workstation
