clifgriffin
Unless you are into really heavy Disk I/O apps, the drive speed isn't going to matter much. With only 128 MB of ram that means most of his memory will be in a swap file...on his hard drive. So yeah, I was right. Windows 98 however was written when most computers had 64 MB of RAM. It should run fine. (Or let me rephrase "as good as windows 98 can" aka "like crap")
Hum
 RAM is not that expensive -- double to 256k then add Win XP.

leafleaves
thanks all the friends here. most of friends supported install 98se or 2000 professional. But from me ,2000 professional is still a resource hog.like xp. xp is impossible.it is too slowly, people cant stand it. just choice between 98se and 2000 professional. if just for using computers, win98 is enough. but if you use U disk, installing 2000 professional is really convenience, cause U disk dont need specially device.from this point,2000 professional is great. But i have used 2000prefessional before for a while time.2000pro is still a resource hog. now ,this time it is me to help other people to intall os. not for myself. the cpu is pentinum 1.7G. i really confuse that. what do i do? 2000professional have stared up,its system cache is still for more than 100m RAM EMS.right? could you do me a favour??? EMS is a memory specification that used a 64k chunk of memory above 640k and below 1024k for swapping "pages" of memory from an expanded memory pool that was not directly addressable to 8-bit software. EMS memory has not be used in a decade, at least. n.b. This memory swapping concept may soon be revisited as they search for a way to get 32-bit software to address more than 4GB of physical memory. Yes, it's normal for 2000 to put a lot of free memory in the system cache. Just make sure that the system has a decently sized paging file (512MB or so). Consider adding another memory stick when they have the chance. A P4 1.7GHz with 128MB would even run XP fine so 2000 shouldn't be a problem. Fred Derf Veteran Posted June 5, 2004 Veteran Share Posted June 5, 2004 maybe it is no may from what you say. There's a prototypical leafleaves statement, if I ever saw one. It even rhymes.
