Ads making article unreadable

Recommended Posts

Had this problem in Opera, Camino, Safari (all on Mac) until I checked 5 minutes ago.

No matter how small the window is it never overlaps now.

I'm hoping that Neobond can fix the IBM ads that are displayed when you want to view a news article. It is making it really hard to view the text on the pages. The screen resolution won't fix this problem.

Example... I like using the new Awasu 2.0 that's posted in the Software Page, but it lets you view the RSS feeds and if you want to read the news, it just puts the site article in a little box and the ad just takes the whole damn thing. It makes it so I don't even use Awasu 2.0 just because of that. I've also had other problems viewing the text using other RSS feed programs.

I'm hoping that this gets fixed so I can use RSS feeds that work by having a little window of the site news for the selected article.

Use Awasu 2.0 and you'll see what I mean.

Regardless, I'm not bitching. Neowin is my internet home just like it is for thousands of others so do what you have to do, you have my support...

Visiting this link:

Gamer News: HL2

The ad is overrunning onto the text (see attached pic), making it impossible to read.

This is a formal complaint

Or it could be because my system is old and still on 640x480.

What can I do? Is it a site-related issue?

Yes he knows his res is low, and perhaps he can't up his resolution to the normal 1024*768 minimum.

So don't start posting "UP YOURZZ RESOLUTIONZ!!1!11ONEONEOENE OMGLOL!!!" as his machine might simply might not be capable of it.

I try to browse without scripting enabled and without java/flash, etc. I use My IE 2, which is on top of IE 6 and I have IE 6 set to show no animations, videos, etc. in the web page and I use MY IE 2 to block flash and stuff. Works pretty well.

Actually, I think it would be better if the ad were fit into the artict with the text wrapping around next to or around the ad...

Margin or padding doesn't work

Quick fix: News text has a background :)

Opps, well it is fixed in Camino.

Just tried it in Opera 7.5 (mac) and the problem is still there, bizarre.

Not sure why it works on Camino and not Opera.

Ok cheers, I just guess my Acer Travelmate 345T TFT screen with its max resolution of 800x600 isn't up to today's internet! Well I'll consider changing it when I have the money.

I'm sure an Admin will review this situation and take any possible actions to correct it. (Assuming any are possible.) We always appreciate comments regarding this type of issue and people bringing ads which truely do impact the useability of Neowin to staff attention.

When reporting an Ad that causes layout issues with Neowin, please remember to include as much information about the Ad as possible so that it can be tracked down quicker.

Thank you for your understanding!

Note

To quote Redmak from another post...

DIV's overlap in IE (and safari) and not in other browers. I don't think they're supposed to overlap.

I don't know how to fix it so it looks ok in all resolutions ... sorry smile.gif

There may not be an easy, if any, solution to the above problem. Sorry guys. :(

Before the ad would go over the words, and now it goes under. It may be a change the admins are implementing to try and resolve the problem.

Not MY IE (Windows XP w/ SP2)

I don't really care cause normally I run at the least 1024 x 768, but if I shrink IE down, it don't work.

What's that have to do with anything. We are not whining about them, we are trying to get the ads fixed so you can read the site better.

My resolution is at 1024x768 and it happens. I just hope they can at least move the ad.

If it doesn't effect you, then STFU....
