ok this is what it will change to shortly:

Just to voice my opinion, I like the one that is up there, but the new one looks good to.

The current offical buttons dont blend with site design no offence or anything.

Buttons don't need to go with the site design, they go on other people's website, not on neowins site.

What makes more sense, in terms of product recognition?

This?

coke_logo.gif

or this?

If neowin was a national company, and they were selling something, they should use their trademark. Since neowin is a tech community, and doesn't really have a national recognized logo (like for instance Coke) it doesn't matter what the link button looks like.

If you went up to 10 random people on the street and showed them the coke logo, and two fake logo's. do you think they could pick out the right one? What if you showed them the neowin logo, and two others, think you will get the same result?

The whole point of a link button is to get people to go to your site. To attract them. If they look at a logo that represents that site, that isn't to noticeable UNLESS they already know what that logo represents. If you put a better looking button that attracts people, more people will be drawn to it.

This is just my opinion, so other people could see it another way, but I don't see why it matters.

It's all about product consistency. It just makes more sense. Would you think it was a good idea for every page on this site to use a different logo?

/me puts on marketing hat....

This is wrong if you want brand recognition. YOu want people to recognize you based on your brand image. It makes perfect sense for Neowin to have consistency across the board.

You're right...you don't have to, but it makes zero sense if you want to make neowin noticed just by a simple logo.

Actually, more importantly, if the image blends in with it's surroundings, it experiences a "chameleon" effect and gets overlooked. The point of the button is to get people to click it. Blending it with the site does nothing to aid this.

Exactly what I was trying to get at, but I don't think I said it as well.

I was disappointed that on the Microsoft Community Partnership Program website, the Neowin linkbutton had nothing in it that represented Neowin aside from the text, and none of the current selection of Neowin Linkbuttons on https://www.neowin.net/aboutus.php actually had the Neowin logo! So with some inspiration from nXP_151's awesome sig, I got snippet1 help me turn his sig into a Linkbutton version :D

So props to snippet1 and nXP_151 for helping with the Linkbutton

Well Enjoy (Y) Please feel free to add it as an official Link button

looks good (Y)
