gawdflesh
You know, there are quite a few things called "books" that would probably be of help in a situation such as this. On one hand, I can probably go on for awhile on how much of an elitist, holier-than-thou alterna-tool that kitteny-berk seems to be, they do have a point...although they went about stating it in the most assinine way possible. Reh; you fscked up. Next time, bring what you want to have done in with you, and ensure beforehand that it's correct, and NEVER just pick a piece of flash off the wall. Wish I could be more supportive or sympathetic, but about the best I can say is consider this a learning experience.
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted May 26, 2004 Veteran Share Posted May 26, 2004 Hey... I could be lucky and it could say, 'Computer geek!' :-) ... Not that i am :cough One good thing is not many people speak japanese or chinese, so its not like everyone will point it out...But you do have the burden of knowing yourself...that is if it incorrect  but yeh post a pic or draw it like someone mentioned. dreamz Veteran Posted May 26, 2004 Veteran Share Posted May 26, 2004 chinese is based on characters. most words are either one or two characters long, so if that's not the case, you might want to find out what it says. you could post it here and we can translate it. there are no letters in chinese, hence, no alphabet. there is, however, a phonetic "alphabet" system, but that's not really chinese. it's just a way of teaching the pronunciation of words. QuantumTrickery
I've seen this happen to several people I know. I guess its shown up more, because at least around here getting different chinese and japanese symbols is the latest thing in trendwhore tattooing. The place i've had all my ink done won't even deal with the people coming in asking for "some symbol meaning something cool" or "i want a butterfly on the small of my back" type crap. If you are going to lay down a permanant work of art on your skin, get custom work done, and know everything you are getting into. If you have to ask questions like "i'm not sure what i want" start rethinking your descision. I can't help but laughing when i see the same exact tribal tattoing everyday, kanji down the back of the neck, or the new string of numbnuts that say "I want that Bam Margera tattoo above my twig and berries!" I wonder what the trend will be next year?
Rivers
I have 2 tattoos.. A celtic band around my arm and an ankh on the other arm. If you want a tattoo.. then go for it!! But make sure you go somewhere safe and reputable. A chinese man somewhere in Turkey on holiday... hhmm sounds well dodgy. edit: oh and the ankh was my own design (QuantumTrickery ;)) I'll post the pics someday.. hey do we have a post your pic of your tattoo thread yet? lol

sdb815
I heard that Britney Spears recently got a tattoo with some Hebrew characters, but the guy that did the tattoo wrote something like "hoe" or something to that effect. When will people learn?

QuantumTrickery
One of that Artists at the place I frequent has an ongoing joke with tattoos. He offers a free tattoo of the month, every once in a while. Generally these are the most horrid and demented designs he can come up with. Lat time he offered this I recall, it was this giant rainbow colored penis with bright golden wings. Someone actually took him up on the offer. To this day a picture hangs on the wall, a picture of a man, with his shiny flying penis tattoo.
FaRSightxc2
The Britney Spears Incident: She was supposed to get a tat saying 'Mysterious', but in fact the literal translation meant 'Wierd' :D As for this case: Reh, if you don't have a pic, try drawing it in MS Paint. Take a few mins to draw it, then post it, and we can tell you what it means. I am sure some of our friends can translate the chinese 'Alphabet' for you. :shifty: Edited May 26, 2004 by farsightxc2
