VB.Net ( Whidbey )

Question

Hi Guys,

Can anyone give me a date or near date when the next version of VB.Net will be available, I believe its called whidbey ?

Will the class Duncan is talking about in the link below be available in VB.Net 2005 ?

Link : My.Class

Can anyone point me in a direction to read more information about VB.Net 2005 ( Whidbey ) ?

I just really hope they have made the printing class easier, its the only part of VB.Net that confuses me.

Oh and one last thing, does anyone know whether their will be an upgrade from VB.Net 2003 to the 2005 Version ?

Kind Regards

So it looks like its still a year away, oh well ! :(

I read the article at the link in my post above, the MY class sounds very interesting, its seems the visual studio developers have listened and are including quite a few improvements.

The printing classes are being improved within the MY class and the MY class will also play sounds, which means no more API calls to play .wav files, hurrah !

All I can say is bring it on Microsoft, sooner the better !

Kind Regards

They just dropped a new CTP build for all MSDN Subscribers, and an open beta is scheduled for June.

I have the CTP build (not the May release, but an earlier one), and believe me, it's worth the wait. :p

Cool! I'll have to bug the holder of the MSDN keys to snarf up a copy for me.

Yeah the CTP build rocks. Also it finally ships usable toolbars to use in the application. They're Office 2003 style. I hope VS-style dockable windows will follow.

There are so many 3rd Party add ons for .Net, like toolbars and email classes, but most are expensive.

I'm just going to be patient and wait for .Net 2005 ( Whidbey ) because it looks as though Microsoft are listening and adding alot of new and requested features.

Does anyone know whether they are adding POP3 support to the framework in the 2005 release, I know you can program POP3 with sockets, I just wondered if they are adding a nice easy class to manage POP3 commands, anyone know ???

Kind Regards

Anyone looking for office 2k3 toolbars and dockwindows without waiting for whidbey to ship should checkout www.divil.co.uk ... free controls to use for freeware programs..have to pay to use them commercially. The dock control on that site also has onenote style document manager. Cheers

I read the licence page and you are correct, nice find ! :)

Thanks alot.

As far as I know, Whidbey will NOT ship with a class that can interact with a POP3 account :(.

I'm sure there's a free one somewhere though :D

Looks like u won't need IIS installed either for developing ASP.NET pages:

Here

edit: nm, whitepaper says diff.

Yeah, it comes with a built-in web server (only meant for testing, not deployment). That means you can develop on your production server and not risk messing up your outside code.
