Neowin review sytem is stupid.

I kind of agree, I don't think I've read one single review that concluded that the product wasn't worth a purchase.

and i have yet to come across a product that is not worth buying to review, just lucky everything i have is working great.

Your draft is too strict.

I streamlined it to this:

Guidelines: If your stuck on trying to make a review... here is a guide to help you out.

During your review see if you can include the following:

? Try to highlight both the good and bad points of the product, and a rating like 3/5 for example.

? Try to conclude with a balanced and reasoned arguement why the readers' should or shouldn't buy the product.

? Provide the readers? with the following to make it as informative as possible.

? See if you can provide technical specifications of the product, and how you think they have faired in real world conditions.

? Put a Link to the manufactures website.

? Provide pictures of the product if you can.

? See if you can provide any other information you have learned in your experience of the product, firmware updates etc and bugs you?ve found.

? If applicable, provide information of the ease of installation of the hardware/software.

? Try to comment on the design of the product like:

(Hardware) build quality, functionality and aesthetics

(Software) stability, functionality and user interface.

? Try to put price of the product if it has one.

I'm still not sure if I want to post it in the RBMFM section yet either.

Draft

Guidelines: things to include in your review to make it better.

During your review try to make it as fair as possible by:

? The review needs to highlight both the good and bad points of the product, a rating out of ten (ten being the highest) is also a good idea (though not mandatory).

? There should be references to other available products currently on the market, Highlight why you chose this product over the other products on the market.

? Do other products excel where your product fails?

? Cite other sources which review the same product, so the readers? can have a balance of opinions on the given product.

? If there are new revisions of the same product in the pipeline, future price cuts, or any other compelling reason to buy the product in the future mention these too. If applicable, mention these too for other competing products.

? Conclude with a balanced and reasoned arguement why the readers' should or shouldn't buy the product.

Provide the readers? with the following to make it as informative as possible.

? Provide technical specifications of the product, and how you think they have faired in real world conditions.

? Link to the manufactures website.

? Provide pictures of the product.

? Provide any other information you have learned in your experience of the product, firmware updates etc and bugs you?ve found.

? If applicable, provide information of the ease of installation of the hardware/software.

? Comment on the design of the product,

o (Hardware) build quality, functionality and aesthetics

o (Software) stability, functionality and user interface.

? Price of the product (and competing products), shipping times you have experienced.

Provide the readers? with useful information which they may need if they so choose to purchase the reviewed product.

? Where to get the best price of the product.

? Where to find any information you needed with your experience of the product.

? Any other useful information the readers' may need.

For members wishing to participate in a debate over which product is better, try and include the following:

? Provide insightful comments on a competing product you own or have experience with, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of this product over the reviewed product. All the Neowin rules apply, avoid flaming at all costs.

? Provide links to other websites that backup your claims, and technical specifications.

? Price/performance issues?

? Bugs with the reviewed product which haven?t been highlighted? Mention these too.

great idea *saves for future reviews* eh, not going to follow it :pactly, i like Shockz streamlined version better :p

I have read this whole thread, and its great to see a non flamed conclusion has been met, although i will point one thing out.

The only Moderator that offered a decent outcome from this was configure, initially all the moderators simply piled onto knight and attacked him, which is unfair, my hat goes off to you configure.

Remember, just because knight has a very questionable arguement, there is no need to thrash him with snide, pedantic comments.

As for knight, i admire your confidence in this matter (Y) takes a lot to go up against these Mods.

The only thing that I don't like about the frist guideline was the link to other reviews. I understand the meaning of it, but if I wanted to read reviews of lets say a keyboard, then I would just google keyboard reviews. If I just want to hear what my friend would say, which means more to me cause that is real world usage everyday, then I will just read the reviews here. Or if I am bored.

i have to agree with Bizkit... i read these reviews for real world things... how people feel about them... i can read reviews any place i want by professional... so making this into another professional review place... its not really gonna work because not everyone doing a review is a professional.

my 2 cents.
