Hypoxiaicon
AGP Aperture Size Test. :: NOTE :: These only represent the BEST AGP Aperture Size for the given Benchmarks. THESE DO NOT represent real world games I have seen many threads on Neowin.net about AGP Aperture Size & how it affects overall gaming performance, so I decided to do some tests to actually see how it affects performance. I will be using the following AGP Aperture Size's; 4MB, 8MB, 16MB, 32MB, 64MB, 128MB & 256MB. System Information: ABIT IC7-MAX3 - BIOS 16 Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.20c @ 3.52 - 220FSB - 1.6250 Vcore GeIL 1GB (2x512MB) PC3500 Ultra Series 2-3-3-6 - 2.8 VDIMM Sapphire Atlantis Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB Lite Retail - Catalyst 4.5 @ Stock Speed - Default Driver Settings DirectX 9.0c Western Digital 80GB IDE - 8MB Cache Benchmarking Software: AquaMark3 (Default Settings) 3DMARK 2001 SE (Default Settings) 3DMARK 2003 (Default Settings) I will be running each test 3 times and then taking the average. 4MB AGP Aperture Size: AquaMark3 ? 18,940 3DMARK 2001 SE ? 15,850 3DMARK03 ? 8MB AGP Aperture Size:e: AquaMark3 ? 41,250 3DMARK 2001 SE ? 19,012 3DMARK016MB AGP Aperture Size:re Size: AquaMark3 ? 45,114 3DMARK 2001 SE ? 19,212 3DM32MB AGP Aperture Size:erture Size: AquaMark3 ? 45,171 3DMARK 2001 SE ? 19,15264MB AGP Aperture Size:P Aperture Size: AquaMark3 ? 45,181 3DMARK 2001 SE ? 19128MB AGP Aperture Size:AGP Aperture Size: AquaMark3 ? 45,161 3DMARK 2001 SE ??256MB AGP Aperture Size:256MB AGP Aperture Size: AquaMark3 ? 45,118 3DMARK 2001 SE ? 19,116 3DMARK03 ? 5884 According to my results I believe a 64MB AGP Aperture is best & is what I?m currently using. Feel free to try your own, but bare in mine, its very tedious, it took my nearly 9 hours. Some Graphs Below, don't show to much detail though. lardiop Veteran Posted June 1, 2004 Veteran Share Posted June 1, 2004 Nice review, just remember that the majority of your results are within the margin of error that both 3DMark and AquaMark say exist. You can run the same test with the same aperture settings, and get a different result each time, usually within 1% or 2% of the other test results. kombolcha
thanks for the review, i've always been told that it's best to to have it at 256MB.. looks like i'll have to benchmark on my own.

tagerd0g
you have a 128MB card and I have a GeForce3 ti200 64MB card. would setting my AGP aperture to 64MB be better also? I don't have 9 hours to spare so I can't test it.
jingarelho
nice work. i'm using 128 aperture with a 64Mb card and works fine, will try 64MB to see if there's any diference.

See what gets higher, either way its only going to be a maximum or 100-300 Points different.

BananaMan
But what you see on the screen would be the same? AGP Aperture has absolutely no effect on visual quality.
Hypoxiaicon
I was thinking of running these sort of tests for ATi as i currently own a ATi card and running AquaMark3 / 3d01 & 03 with new drivers to see the difference. But there only synthetic.. so i guess it wouldnt be much point?
Colin.B
I ran 3dMark with my AGP aperture size at about 256mb. My 3DMark score dropped by about 500 marks. I went back to 64. I'd say 64 is the best bet as well, then 128.

Digital Pimp
Good info thanks, nice to see charts too, makes it easier for the illiterate of us out there. Think mines at 128 will change it down too 64. Good work
