imtoomuch came out of the closet to say:

Since you have a "hot-rod" PC why are you even buying a new computer? I'm just curious. It's also info that could better help the NeoWinners help you decide.

Came out of the closet? What the **** does that mean?

I had $200 short of enough money saved for my G4 powerbook about 2 months ago (I was gonna take 2 years off school and take a second program) anyway, decided to scrap my first few years of university and go a completely new route and take Electrical Engineering, now my 'Mac Fund' has become a 'Why the Hell Did I Waste My Time On a B.A.' fund!

Uh ok. I don't wanna be part of this "club." You go on with your butt buddies.

There's a lot more to this forum than meets the eye.

PS: The big picture serves the purpose of being annoying. Nothing more.

I already have the funds, just waiting until my ADC expires before getting it..

I'm also waiting for what they have in store for the laptop line after WWDC this year..

Glad to see the birth of another group of Mac users. I have a 12" Powerbook, although if money is a big factor, seriously consider the iBook or the eMac. They're both excellent units, and as long as you have at least 512mb of Ram, speed should never really be much of an issue.

One thing you'll find when using a Mac, is that due to the completely different interface, everything just seems smoother. Sure some things will take a bit longer to load, but once running, it's really rare to notice anything running slow. Mac OS X has the best multitasking abilities I have ever seen, a huge step from the half-assed multitasking that plagued Mac users right up til Mac OS 9.

My recommendation to you is a new iBook. Nice, portable, and more than fast enough for a first machine. I'm currently trying to save for a PowerMac G5, although it isn't a priority, as my Powerbook does everything I really need right now.
