adam.sproul
I am interested in trying to increase my PC skills in some 9 weeks I will have off soon. My main PC skills are: HTML, (only WYSIWYG editors though) I would like to learn Flash, Visual Basic (some experience), C++, Java etc. Can anyone give me any guidance as on what you think I should learn, what order and links to useful websites etc. Or even tell me how they started out and what on ? In the future I am going to take a Masters in Computing Science, so I won't to try and improve my skill. Thanks in advance for the help. :) Edited June 7, 2004 by bluephoenix3007

biorK
Read books of what you want to learn, it really helps. I'm learning VB.NET atm, fun as hell. Try some vector graphic, it's also some timekiller.

XgD
HTML sort of progresses into JavaScript and CSS if you want to do anything web-related, so I'd look into that XgD
John Veteran Posted June 7, 2004 Veteran Share Posted June 7, 2004 I think you should first decide if you want web design or desktop programming. That makes everything a lot easier, including the choice as to where I should move this :p ;)

adam.sproul
Thinking of more Desktop Programming than web design. :)
Schmoove
I'd go for C++, though I do think you need a good book for that if you are starting.... tutorials just don't cut it. Once you know C++ other languages are a breeze to get in to.
Naruco
Can anyone give me any guidance as on what you think I should learn...In the future I am going to take a Masters in Computing Science, so I won't to try and improve my skill. 98XT
If you can do some HTML, I'd build on that and learn to produce XML, XHTML, PHP and MySQL. It'll get you a long way. http://www.w3schools.com is a great place to start.
