Garage Door Automatically Opening?

Recommended Posts

My parents just bought a new 2004 lexus es330 with the works  but today, after coming home from school (from the bus), I noticed that the garage motor light was on and the door was closed (meaning it had just been recently closed/openned). I thought nothing of this because my dad had just recently programmed the homelink buttons in the lexus to our garage doors so I thought that maybe my dad had hit something while pressing the training button and it left the light on.

Later while im on the john, I hear the garage door open. I figure its my mom coming home early, but then i realize shes NEVER come home at 3:30 unless it was for a special occasion and also the garage door to my house doesn't open for like 10 minutes, I figure she went into the yard or something. I finish my buisness and im pretty freaked out. I call my mom's workplace, shes not there, I call her cell - its off same with my dad. I'm kinda freaked out and thinking theres a killer in my house or something. Anyway I go outside to get the mail (an excuse to check the garage) and its open. I investigate, the door leading to the house is locked still so shes not in the house and the door to the yard is locked so no one had gone through there. Then I see the other 2 cars are gone, meaning my mom didn't take the lexus to work. My mom comes home 2 hours later and she says she heard the garage door opening when she was taking a shower this morning

So, I guess I'm wondering if there's an explanation for this? I'm thinking something to do with the homelink buttons?

And also I don't know if this is related but the door in my room opened up last night when it was latched BY ITSELF and just stopped halfway...

if that were true wouldn't it have happened before? We've been living on the same street with the same neighbors for 2 years.

Look in the manual for your door opener. Usually there's some switches or something up there that you can change the frequency with. Then you have to do the same for the remotes too, and you're all set (Y)

Umm... Homelink is built INTO the car and the manual says nothing about changing any jumpers and I see NO WHERE where i could :pinch:

Could be almost any kind of device that operates on radio waves interfering with the door and triggering the mechanism.

This has happened to my garage and it's only ever happened once. Lots of things could have caused it. Even a sudden surge in the electrical wires could cause something like this. Don't be too worried about it, especially if nothing was taken.

The best option would be to get somene who fixes garage doors to come and have alook at it, it could just be f*cked and needs fixing :D

Yep. I agree. If you do what gameguy posted, you might break it even more than fix it. It's best to get a professional repairperson to have a look.

They work using a relay and momentary switch (remote) to open/close.

The effect can be triggered by power fluctuations also. Could look into this.

But as you said, you have rcecently had your system reprogrammed - I'd look there first!
