Things to see in New York.

Recommended Posts

The family's thinking about taking a vacation from NC to NY. We want to see different things along the way. Well stop in NYC for a few days, and I was wondering, what would you all recommend to see while we're there?

Dont just stay in the city. Come upstate and go for a nice drive around.

Lots of great malls around, also check out Franklin D. Roosevelt mansion in Hyde Park, nice place. :)

some more unique places:

Hayden Planetarium , right next to the Museum of Natural History

You can also visit the Sony IMAX 3-D Theater that's located on Broadway, not many of these kind of IMAX theaters in the USA. They are mostly located in the larger cities of the state.

USS Intrepid Museum, fleet week in NYC just ended about a week ago, though no aircraft carrier visited this time, CV-67 was away on duty :( . No nuclear powered ships are allowed to dock at NYC, that makes CV-67 the only such ship class that can visit, though there was a grand amphibious assault ship that visits instead.

oh and you can go grocery shopping(if you're gonna cook for yourselves) at Fairway, great prices and it caters to everyone's tastes. The best place to shop in the city, the Broadway location is the largest. And, no I don't work there or own the place.

Anyone here shop there?

Are they letting people back up the Statue of Liberty again? Last time I was there about 2 years ago, they didn't allow anybody up the statue but only access to Liberty Island.

I recommend going to Times Square at night. It is pretty wild. Also, go to a Broadway show... you can get tickets pretty cheap at the Two-fers booth at 42nd & Broadway (someone correct me if I'm wrong but I know it's in there somewhere). Definitely go to the ESB at night before they close so you can get a nice view of the island at night from high up. Go to Rockafeller center, take the NBC tour if you want. Reserve tickets to Conan O'Brian early in advance... it's fun to attend the show tapings. Just a few things...

i went to NY last summer and winter.

Definetly see Times Square, Statue of Liberty and the WTC Area. I dont know what it looks like now but when we went it was still a hole in the ground

See a show on Broadway FOR SURE. I saw the Full Monty and it was hilarious. Good times. I also went on some boat/fairy ride that took off next to the USS Intrepid and went all around the island and back, it was long but worth it. Battery Park and Wall Street for sure also

Standing on the roof of the World Trace Center was quite an experience.

I'd visit the Chrysler Building, Central Park and be a Blue Man Group show.
