Installing VS.NET with Visual Studio 6.0

Question

Hi All,

I have been working with Visual Studio 6.0 Enterprise Edition all these years and I now need to work on a project with C# (and later with VC#). I reckon I have to install VS.NET (I have both Professional and Enterprise versions with me), and I don't want to mess around with my Visual Studio 6.0.

Are there any issues involved in installing VS.NET and VS 6.0 together on the same PC (I have Window 2000 Professional running on Pentium 4 3.06 GHz PC)? Do I have to install one before the other?

Thanks for your time and advice!

Cheers,

Indrajit

Just to make it simple on yourself, install the one you want to be your primary environment second, so that all the file associations are right for your situation. Aside from that, it makes no difference.

I would have thought it would have made sense for VS.NET upwards would be able to support VS6 projects. I.e Open, compile them etc. That would eliminate the need for having 2 different peices of software installed.

No conflicts here... In fact I have VS6, VS.NET 2002, and VS.NET 2003 all installed and working independantly...

Once you start using .NET, you won't want to use VS6 anymore...

i just had to put VS6 back on my machine and i didn't have any problems with already having VS.NET on there. Shouldn't be an issue. Just be prepared to never go back to 6 once you get .NET on there :)
