John Veteran Posted June 10, 2004 Veteran Share Posted June 10, 2004 Right now there's at least two possible tornado cells going through my area, one of them is maybe a mile or two from my house :s Luckilly though, they're not expected to come this way because I live too far north and not far enough east. It's pretty interesting though, the sirens are going right now, something I've only heard once before. I live in Moline, right in the center of the radar image: The cells don't look to menacing in that pic, but if I could find one zoomed in closer like there is on the TV, they're pretty big. Edit: The two original ones don't pose any threats to me anymore, one dissipated and the other is far off to the east. But there's another system off to the south-west that worries me... Here's what it looks like right now (6:23 PM Central):

John Veteran Posted June 10, 2004 Author Veteran Share Posted June 10, 2004 It's mostly over for now, but that other cell to the west of me doesn't look good :ermm: It's bigger than the other two were. Though now they're saying it might just turn into a ton of rain, the wind has calmed down a lot outside my house.

XPGoD
Ok....I was and stress was going to be a weatherman....having been certified storm spotter for SkyWarn...I know weather. Ok in the image I've edited with good ole MSPaint and the RED box signifies the "hook Echo" Now this only is apparent to storms indicating that of a tornadic spin, they usually sound the sirens when Doppler Radar picks up the winds moving towards and away at the S junction , meaning to them on radar RED is away, GREEN is towards. And they must be at least 40 Knots or more to indicate rotation. NOW the red arrow is RFD (rear flank draft), this is dry cool air being sucked up into storm and creates a BEAVER TAIL to the NW of Wall Cloud. The White Circle is ( HAIL )where strong updraft is created by the Violet colored arrow the updraft FFD the Blue Arrow indicates 850Mb Shear usually 50+ Knots or more for good spin ups. I'd be interested to see, what the helicity values are.....checking now with NSSL....OK Tornado Watch # 429 for you in IL. pimpshiznid
Around 8:30 we had a tornado warning blow through our area here in Shelbyville, Indiana. First time I had heard the civil service alarms around here. Afterwards, it slipped right past the city. The only thing I had to show for it was our one way street, whcih is sloped on both sides for people to park on, and you drive down the peak. Yeah, it was flooded up to the peak. Glad I decided to park my car in the driveway tonight.
