Shyatic
What about networking jobs? I mean... you technically have to be in physical presence of the firewall and appliances you work on, right? I only ask because this is the career goal I'm currently pursuing. Hopefully I do it for a few years and then switch to something else altogether :)
EnjoyHIC
I really don't know for sure, but I don't think they can farm it out. Mainly they farm out development, not networking. I work in the world of IT and I have never seen a foreign network guy... :)

Shyatic
Yes/No. It depends on what you're doing. What should I be doing? I'm just getting into it now, so if I can focus myself...
Frank
MOST of the IT jobs that are going oversees have nothing to do with Network/System management. They are mainly technical support, programming, web design, etc. The bad part about it is for people trying to get into the field they have to start out (usually) as a lower end position, like tech support. The more those jobs go overseas the harder it will be for someone to get their foot in the door. I don't think you should focus yourself on what job you could get, but what you would like to do and what you think you would be good at. If your not happy with what you do, you will be miserable at work, no matter how much you get paid.
Shyatic
I'm happy with what I do and what I want to do in the IT field... I just see myself as doing 'more' down the line, but it would be in addition to what I do as a day-job.

Frank
They must pay jr. admins pretty well for you to be able to afford a new Maxda RX8 :D.
Shyatic
They must pay jr. admins pretty well for you to be able to afford a new Maxda RX8 :D. Nah, I live at home (trying to save money and be responsible), don't have a lot of expenses and am not a huge shopper. I buy a few PC parts once and again (just upgraded to my AMD64 machine!!), but I don't drink or anything... so 'partying' doesn't take up a whole lotta money. My only real expenses are my car, insurance, gas, and a little bit of spending money each week. That's about it :)
bdsams Veteran Posted June 11, 2004 Veteran Share Posted June 11, 2004 pretty much have to hink of it this way, if your problem can be solved over the phoen, you have to move to inda to get a job (ie tech support, programming) but things like PC repair, Networking, or anything else that requires you to be hands on, you should be fine
