Steffan
I thought the latest stable version of IPB is 1.3.1? you are correct, but all it has is some patches that came out after 1.3. I think neowin is waiting for version 2 to come out before they upgrade the forum.

Tim Dorr Veteran Posted June 12, 2004 Veteran Share Posted June 12, 2004 It's not that I do not like Neowin, it is just getting a bit old.I believe that some things has to be upgraded when the time comes. Of course, I'm against upgrading for the sake of having the "latest and greatest", so if Neowin has the newest most stable version of the Invision Power Board software, then an upgrade is not necessary until the next final. However, the UI is a bit outdated. I feel that there is still room for improvement. My diagram is still not ready yet, as I'm trying to improve the design. I will post the diagram when it is really. It will have nothing fancy, just lines and boxes that act as a guide for a new UI. Question before you waste your time: How much HCI experience do you have? Have you designed a software product before? Saying it's "old" isn't a valid excuse for changing things; saying it's got bad usability or accessibility is. Just because you happen to think it's boring doesn't mean you should change it for the sake of keeping things "fresh". The site works quite well so far, and changing it would have the drastic effect of both ****ing a lot of people off, and breaking an already working system. You can always add more themes if you want, but mostly Neowin forums are really fast and easy to use and read. Why take the risk of breaking something if you don't have to? I found a cool site and want it to stay that way. :) I hope they don't take away any of the themes if they do upgrade. I get used to it the way it is. calidude
I would definitely call this "fast" : [ Script Execution time: 0.0171 ] [ 11 queries used ] [ GZIP Enabled ] [ Server Load: 0.32 ] :)
tiagosilva29
I would like to see a >VERY LITE< version of Neowin. My ISP only allows 1Gb of international downloads and 20 Gb of national downloads.

SOOPAH256
Maybe there should be a mini-competition? meh, maybe. but it seems to me that the admin are well underway with Long's design. anyway, i suppose a 'mini-competition' couldn't hurt for fun anyway. perhaps ideas from those could be implented slowly into the new design. supernova_00
ya lo-fi is about the lightest you could get, its basically just text. I hope that the new design is simple yet not too drastic of a change like www.betanews.com new layout is just awful the old was great, it went from simple--"google" to cluterd--"msn.com"

I have already signed up for a course in InfoCommunications Technology, which involves programming software, and it's starting soon! And I have played around with software design before... Added: I really do not like the Windows Logo background that is all over Neowin. This wastes bandwidth and makes the entire site looks gaudy. I hope somebody could remove it. Bearded Kirklander
As long as Neowin allows the forum themes/skins to stay the same, I guess I'm game for whatever they want to try adding on. I'll just try to think positive. (Y) I would like to see some other smiles listed in teh Clickable Smilies mainly the thumbs up and down and a few others. They are so common. This current design has taken us almost 3 years to get to where we are right now (according to Neo), surely it will not be abandonned even if something new were to be introduced.
