What IS Quorn?

Recommended Posts

Im not a vegetarian, but I had a quorn roast instead of meat on my sunday dinner the other day. It is a slightly different texture from meat, but it does TASTE like meat. It had me wondering, what exactly is this quorn stuff made of?? not meat obviously :D

Arg had to study it for GCSE bio, had to taste it even this stuff is rough!!! Oh well. I suppose if you don't like meat it's a good alternative. But it's like white bread, while being strange in texture. Grown in big vats with sugar and various gases pumped in.

wait wait, some dude asked why eat a meat substitute if you don't eat meat...and then someone answered "because they're vegetarians..."

how on earth does that make sense?

if they are vegetarians, they do not, by choice, eat meat. so, if they don't eat meat, WHY would you want a substitute? Are they faking the whole "meat is bad" thing? are they admitting that meat tastes farking good! bbq quorn? GROSS.

mmmmm meat substitute with a near beer....that sounds good, too.

ripped :ninja:

I suppose it depends WHY the person is a veggie. If they like the taste of meat but dont feel comfortable with eating animals, then Quorn is a perfect substitute.

Well I just enjoyed a vegetarian-sausage sandwich. Its the first time I tried veggie sausages, and I will say I couldn't taste the difference between that sausage sandwich and a sausage sandwich with real pork sausages like I usually eat..

well to my knowledge they don't eat meat because of the killing of the animal, they might like the taste, but not like that they are eating an animal. So eating meat substitue keeps the taste, loses the killing

i think the whole "don't want to kill an animal" thing is kinda funny, when the vegetarians will run right out and kill plants left and right. still a living organism...

then they (the vegheads) state that animals have consciousness (however only chimps, orangatangs and humans have been proven to exihibit self awareness - not even dolphins do), thus stating that plants are just, well, food.

soon, we'll have a vegetable substitute made from nanoparticles.

wouldn't want to hurt anything....

=)

i'm just arguing for arguings sake: used to live in San Francisco, and i hated the vegetarians up there..."oh don't eat that poor cow! do you know how they kill them!!!?"

at that point, i would always look them in the eye, smile, and take a huge bite of steak/burger.

meat is GOOD!
