kombolcha
you know what.. i didn't know this guy, but i can tell you that he didn't do squat ****, it was the people in the backround that should be getting credit, the only reason he's so famous and gets coverage like this is because of his attitude and personality, he's the cool guy, thats why people like him so much, but he had the contra, biggest deficit, highest unemployment, laying off 11,000 people in one night, and supporting the white people in South Africa behind him. those are words from my uncle, who also supports bush
Anubis187
Not to disrepect Regan, but he was only there to see it fall, Kennedy was handled it at its peak, the cuban missile crisis, and not Regan. Regan didn't do much, he wasn't a total screw up as the presidents before him like Johnson and Nixon, that why people think he great, compared to those guys who would be!!! and his passing is getting to much attention
Powerworks
Well... I would have actually took what he said seriously.. until you said he supported Bush.. that negated everything.. I've noticed that people who support Bush have tunnelvision.. All that may be so, but what has Bush done? He's got us into another unwanted war, raised the deficit and pretty much gains support by the closed minded fundamentalist Christians.... And I asked to only honor the President. Make your own thread to argue politics, this is honoring the man and his service to our nation. I hate Bush, but i'll do the same when his funeral comes around, its called respect. /edit this was pointed at Vice King.

kombolcha
exactly, i couldn't speak for myself since i was too little to care about politics.. i was trying to get at how my uncle is a republican supportor and Reagan being a republican, even my uncle didn't like him. he said they were rough times.. between him and bush, their only difference is reagan looks better :p did i spell his name right? Anubis187
There's nothing wrong with paying respect to the man, but parading him around is ridiculous, and the amount of coverage his passing is getting, I feel is wrong.
imtoomuch
I think it's funny that so many people used to hate Reagan, but now that he's dead he's a ****ing "god." I just don't get the media and never will. That's why I refuse to watch the "news."
Explicative
you must respect the fact that he did stop the spread of Communism Regardless of whether you like/respect Reagan, please stop perpetuating this myth. The Soviet Union imploded because its government was inherently flawed, and it made a relatively smooth transition to a quasi-liberal democracy largely because of Gorbachev's efforts. Reagan was simply lucky that the end of the Cold War coincided with his presidency after the decades of our government's consistent adherence to the policy of containment (though I'll give him credit for accelerating the process a little by rejecting detente). At any rate, by the time Reagan took office there was not a chance in hell of Soviet-style totalitarianism spreading anywhere. In short, don't rewrite history in the name of honoring a dead president. Edited June 12, 2004 by Explicative

Powerworks
To be honest, I don't like what republicans stand for, and I don't think I would have liked Reagan during his Presidency had I been old enough to care. But besides all that, I do respect the office, and have been hammered about how great he was lately... I honestly didn't know the Soviet Destruction was internal... I apoligize and will edit the post.

Osiris
I'm not an American citizen, but I watched the Service for Mr Reagan, I have studied politics and economics, and am well aware of what he did and stood for and who he was, and regardless of all that, you can tell by the moving tributes, that there rested a man people admired, and someone who commanded respect, and a zest for life political figures now may not possess. Tews
Ronald W. Reagen will go down in history as one of the greatest presidents since FDR. I have lived through ten presidents from Dwight Eisenhower to George W. Bush. Ive seen the good ones and the bad ones. I think the two greatest achievements of President Regan will be remembered for cutting the maximum tax rate from 78% to 28%, and spured the greatest economic growth period in the twentith century. The second was causing the Soviet Union to implode. Former Soviet Preimers' have gone on record that President Reagans' StarWar Defence Initiative forced the Soviet Union to bankrupt itself. This is not conjecture it is historical fact. For these to reasons alone ( though there are many many more ) President Reagan deserves the honour of the world population. From reading some of the posts here, I would be willing to wager that 90% weren't even alive duing the two terms that President Reagan was in office. It seems that some of you are simply parroting the popular media line, rather than taking the time to research the facts .. You shame yourself with such blatent ignorance... It's a STATE FUNERAL moron. We haven't had one in like 30 years. You can "feel" whatever you want but EVERY President that dies gets one unless he requests otherwise (Nixon). I love how people shoot their little 15 year old mouths off without knowing a thing about anything...
