JohnsonBox
(The thread is for the members who are interested in electrotechnics.) I could not crack this trick yet, so I'd like to discuss with you. Hawkers in China preach how the doohickey can greatly save the electrical energy in your home (Chinese link: http://biz.weixiuwang.com/syjh/search.asp?sortid=5 ), for example, saving up to 60%. The doohickey is just matchbox-sized. As long as you plug in it to an electrical outlet in your home, anything will be okay. The hawkers sold it at price 1USD (2000W). They showed it to spectators how it worked. The shell has been removed from the ammeter, so you could clearly see what was inside the ammeter. I carefully checked all connections linked to the ammeter and the ammeter itself; they seemed all right. I didn't see any changes inside the ammeter. Plug in a doohickey to an electrical outlet, the ammeter would run apparently as slow even as a snail does. Plug it out, the ammeter recovered its normal speed. Some Chinese reporters said the hawkers changed the connections of the ammeter. No, what I checked has denied their point.
Keldyn
If it really does work then I'll gladly take one. lol I am tired of being ripped off by the electrical companies. $250 for my last bill. :(
spiegel
i dont think its possible, are you saying that this little doohickey can give you the same power that a regular socket can but it can save you 60 percent on your energy bill?? im thinking of how this works but i dont think it does and the site is in some asian laguage so i cant even read the explanation (if there is one)
PureEdit
If you open up your meter box and turn the electronics behind the glass upside down you only get charged ~10% of what you use. This is a really old trick and people have been doing it for a long time. It is illegal though. Natural Gas is what is costing us, electric is cheap. JohnsonBox
But in the show, the ammeter was put there horizontally; plus, if what you said -- the "upside down" happened, the running speed of the ammeter would not be affected by plugging in a doohickey! So I'm afraid that is not the "old trick" happened there!
