want to split a web server?

Recommended Posts

Does anybody want to go in with me on buying a server? I need about half of it but the other half wouldn't be of use to me - we could split the cost in proportion to what exactly we're buying.

If you're interested in splitting it up email me (morphious@iwnation.com)

Note: I've got several people interested so if you're seriously interested in this PLEASE EMAIL ME ASAP.

We could provide 100GB bandwidth and 5GB space for about $20 a month. Any other increment of these, just multiply.

morphious@iwnation.com is my email.

A Windows 2003 server would up the price about $5.00 more per month for what I specified above.

And no, illegal content wouldn't be allowed.

I'd have to think about the 'minimum' people could buy....but I'm sure we could work out something that's very appealing to us all. :)

If you're of legal age and enforce everything I don't see why you couldn't host an adult site.

WOOT! Of course I am of legal age.

Steps to owning a webserver for less than what you pay for your broadband connection.

Step 1) Find an old computer (atleast 200mhz) with a good amount of ram (about 64mb atleast)

Step 2) Install an operating system (preferably Linux)

Step 3) Network your computer through a hub or router (if using hub find a tutorial for Windows Home Networking or Linux connection sharing.. if on mac.. learn to become a better consumer)

Step 4) If not using Linux travel to www.apache.org and download Apache Web Server

Step 5) Configure Apache

Done!....

moron

to host on a mac:

put files to be hosted (html, images, etc) in "Sites" folder of home

open system prefs

click "sharing"

turn on "web sharing".

you're done.

perhaps the person with the mac is already the better consumer, understanding how much time that saves.

With the cpanel it is very easy to use.

Probably something from ServerMatrix.

www.servermatrix.com

And oh yeah, you can make your own host from your home - but have fun running a site like mine which gets about 14 million requests a month on it. :D It won't hold up.

I'm surprised he hasn't told you to f*** off yet.

 so am i, though it appears once he is done having his fun in a thread, he never returns... example: "my friend's dad just bought a $15k mac" and "the display on the emac sucks"...
