Why did Neowin switch into Invision Board?

Recommended Posts

Hi All..

I would like to ask. why did you switch from vb to Invision Board?

What are the problems that you faced in VB that were impossible to fix?

And what are the features that you got from IB that you didn't have in VB?

Thanks :)

The primary reason was that VB was causing the server to overload and be busy all the time, and I mean all the time... if you were on Neowin for an hour w/ VB you would hit atleast 20 busy messages.

I think another aspect of it was we were initially offered free hosting by IPS in exchange for using IPB and it being an advertisement. As we outgrew IPS we just kept IPB, it's a good board :)

vB is slow. Dog slow. This is both in server resource usage and download times for pages. With the upcoming release of IPB 2.0, IPB is going to both get all the features of vB3, but without the massive resource overhead. IPB simply has more features and better performance than vB.

Yep, that's what I remember mostly. I didn't know any of the server load stuff at the time, so that's what stuck with me.

As I recall it was because we used to be hosted by IPB, it might have happened before that though.

I used to be a vB fan, but after using it here at Neowin for a couple years, and the recent release of vB3 (its horrible compared to vB2 and IPB, IMO), I only use IPB now.

IPS hosting us had nothing to do with us switching to IPB. The moment IPB 1.1 was released we switched (1.0 didn't do it for us). IPB is free and we really like the forum.

It's not fair to blame vbulletin for all our load problems (we had many load problems after switching to IPB and we still do). It was a completely different situation.

heh, vB really does suck some thing obscene.

IPB is a lot better server and resource wise :) Oh and its a lot cleaner and easier to use than vB

IPB is way better than vB in many ways.

Faster.

More features (i think).

Nicer Layout.

More user friendly.

and the list goes on....

also Invisionize has a huge dB of mods and skins for IPB.
