Signum
How does a Virus get a name like Sasser or Netsky etc.... Is it the author of the Virus or the AntiVirus companies who name them and if so how do you find out the name of a new virus to start with?? Just something thats been bugging me

[jon]
the AV companies like McAfee or Symantec tend to look through the code to find any clues as to what they should call it... I don't know any such examples off by hand but check out google that should be able to help.... Lately, AV companies have come under attack from people, though, about their so-called "romantic" names they give to viruses like Blaster, etc.... Bushrat
There is some kind of authoritie that deals with viruses, they name them I think.
MipScript
The people who made Netsky are called the Skynet team.. so maybe they left a name in the code or something.

dablitz
i reckon the people that make the viruses leave clues or hints and stuff in the code and or the name itself in the code
Borbus
There is some kind of authoritie that deals with viruses, they name them I think. Yes there is an authority that actualy makes viruses and their definitions and names them but obviously they don't actually release them. Then if a new virus comes out they name it and make the definition.
