hahacar
I wanted to signup in hotmail. So i opened signup page. For safety reason (to stop accidental click on continue) they provide a number. Dont you think the number provided are more painfull to read than to write? Cant they make it simple? Just like yahoo or any other tom dik or harry dotcom. Boffa Jones Veteran Posted June 16, 2004 Veteran Share Posted June 16, 2004 it is probably to prevent a program from recognizing the pictures
chacho
there are ways to both prevent a bot from recognizing it AND make it easy for the user to read. imagine how tough it would be for an older person to set up an address
Boffa Jones Veteran Posted June 16, 2004 Veteran Share Posted June 16, 2004 just because they are sixty doesnt mean they cant read letters and numbers due to them being slightly hard to read
Tiftof
maybe when you're sixty you'll have some troubles reading them. But I guess it wouldn't take more than 3 minutes or something :p never thought of that being a problem, lol
QuantumTrickery
A good chunk of websites are using this method nowadays. Its not hard for me. It wasn't hard for my grandfather who is 76.

the evn show
Imagine you couldn't see that at all: how would you sign up? I'm not a big fan of making my sites inaccessible to blind users simply because their eyes aren't as sharp as mine. I think a better method would be showing a simple equation like 3 * (2 + 4) = ? and have a text field for the user to enter the answer, or maybe using aural style sheets to read a list of items, give one of them with some sort of inflection, volume change, etc. and ask the user to tell you which "item" was different.
