adam.sproul
I can feel the pain in my mouth while reading this thread, luckily I think my wisdom teeth are growing straight.
Aaron Veteran Posted June 16, 2004 Veteran Share Posted June 16, 2004 It isn't really all that painful, just take everyones advice and not give her any solid food. Slushies and Ice Cream are the best things to have, and after two days I managed to have some somewhat solid food. And a kid in my class how two bruises on his chest from the dentist. It would be interesting to sit in on a wisdom tooth removal. Those bruises are from the dentist's knees, don't you know... ;)
lardiop Veteran Posted June 16, 2004 Veteran Share Posted June 16, 2004 I remember getting mine yoinked... The stuff they use to put you to "zzzz..." made me puke all over the doctors office. Tylenol 3's will become your best friends. Along with the, I got another drug called Endodan to make stuff feel better. Crap, you could get your freind to shoot you and you wouldn't feel it when you have enough of that in your system. :D

HolyLiaison
I just got mine taken out two days ago. All 4, I had to go to the hospital because they actually had to do minor surgery to get them out. They wern't protruding through my gums yet so they couldn't do it at the dentists office so they sent me to the hospitol. Before I went they were hurting like a mother f'er, I was thinking they were impacted or they were rotting under my gums cause the pain was unbearable. As it turned out, only one was impacted, but it busted one of my other molars and that tooth was rotting and causing all the pain. So I had to get 5 teeth taken out.... After I woke up I didn't even remember why I was there. I didn't feel any pain at all. Even the next day they didn't hurt really. Which is why I'm here talking to you. Not all wisdom teeth stories are horror stories. I had 5 teeth taken out and it barely hurt. My jaw doesn't hurt, and I can eat soft nutritious foods like Oatmeal Cream Pies, and so on... the Doctor was kinda supried I wasn't having any pain. I think it's because the pain before I went in was so intense I'm not even sensing these minor pains. The only thing I don't recommend is smoking, rinsing your mouth vigorously, or drinking through a straw for at least 24 hours after surgery/extraction. Smoking will cause Dry Socket, which is dry air reaching your jaw bone and causing horrible pain. Which would require another visit to the dentist. Rinsing your mouth or drinking through a straw can disturb the blood clots forming in holes where your Wisdom teeth/Molars used to be causing a lot of bleeding which would require you to stick in more gauze to stop and re-clot the area. Also, no alcohol and hot liquids. They'll help make things worse quick too. ;)
ze-newie
Does anyone know if you have to go to the hospital to get them taken out if they're not even through the gum surface yet? Some people get them out at the dentists...but all 4 of mine are still under the gum. Which do you think, hospital or dentist?

j0sh
I had mine removed when I was 18, I'm 21 now. I had the anesthesia by an IV. They also had heart monitors hooked up to me and I moved around and one came loose and the machine flat lined. The nurse came running in like a bat out of hell and since I was somewhat drugged I told her "I'm dead" , then I remember watching Stargate on the T.V. on the wall and within 5 minutes I was out  . Woke up after what seemed to be only minutes and I wasn't in too much pain. My whole lower jaw was numb and I remember poking and pulling on my skin and not being able to feel it. After a few hours being home the anesthesia started to wear off and that's when I started to feel pain. I was told to use frozen bags of peas or ice packs. And the whole thing with no straws is that you can rupture a blood vessel or damage a nerve if I remember correctly. I remember just eating a lot of pudding and Jello and milkshakes with a spoon. Took me about 4-5 days before I was able to open my house wide enough to eat food.

unimatrixzer0
Do they give you the choice to be left awake instead of put asleep? I rather not have an IV in my arm.

Soviet
Oral surgeons will do it. Wouldnt really trust the dentist doing it. When I got mine out. I went with the novacain instead of being put all the way under. was a weird deal. Guy shattered a tooth and a piece went down my throat and he's there digging it out. Me gagging the whole time. Ask to keep them at the end. lots of arnica(?) and there wont be very much/no swelling. haha, i was born without wisdom teeth Me too. Then they grew in when I got older. b3ta
I had 4 wizdom teeth and have 3 left. One started to decay as it was under the jaw bone and that made for tricky surgery. Never again.
lawtai
I got my wisdom teeth pulled like 2 years ago. I was actually pretty lucky since my wisdom teeth had grown in normally, so I didn't have to get them pulled, but the dentist suggested that I should just get them out to avoid possible infections and stuff that can be common with wisdom teeth. Since my wisdom teeth had already all grown out when I got them pulled, the dentist just used novacaine on me, and basically pulled 4 teeth out. The worst part was actually hearing it, and I could still feel the tooth getting pulled even though it didn't hurt. After getting them pulled, they just put gause in my mouth and let me leave. Didn't need stiches or anything. Pretty painless too. It really depends on the condition of the person's wisdom teeth before they get them pulled as to how bad they'll have it afterwards. aem4162
Smooth ice cream. Nothing chunky or with pieces of anything becuase it can get stuck in the gaping holes she has in the back of her gums. (Y) i lived on ice cream when i had mine cut out. percodan is a wonderful thing, too  ask her if she'd like a pic of her chipmunk cheeks and just be nice to her
GuidZilla
I just had mine out last Thursday and i'm still a hurtin fool. Meh. The procedure went great, i was in and out of there in just about an hour and they pulled all 4 teeth and put me under anesthesia(sp?). The first couple days were pretty much a blur without much pain due to pain pills and sleepin through it. Then Saturday night showed up and i started to get alot more pain. So to make a long story short, I've been back to the dentist/surgeons office every day this week so far and go back again tomorrow morning. I have friggin dry socket and damn does it hurt. The Vicadin doesn't even cover it. I really thought I was gonna get lucky since the first couple days went so well lol. Denied.
I8PP
Wow this conversation really has me spooked about my wisdom teeth. None are on the top, but the two on my lower jaw are poping out, and one appears to be growing sideways (impacting) with the molar :(. Eeek....
