quality of posts on neowin

Recommended Posts

i'd make neowin tech only.

maybe make separate msgboard for "other" topics.

all the threads listed in the 1st post(and their variants) would be gone from neowin.

i wouldn't hesitate to kill threads that don't follow "above average" standard. for every 2 upset members who got their "pee steam psi" threads locked, i'm sure there would be dozens of thankfull members.

Another thought is that you could start your own forums and set your own rules. That way you don't have to worry about what other people think and do. $10 a month to have Invision host your forums. That is pretty reasonable.

Thats nice but this isn't your forum and instead of pleasing just YOU. We must please the MASSES.

I for one enjoy the non technical stuff and I don't read what I think is stupid.

MxxCon you left once before but you came back like a day later... hrmm its because you're addicited to neowin.

If you hate this place so much, make your own forums with your own rules where you can complain all day to satisfy your ego.

I almost fell off the chair when I saw who created the thread. Sheesh, man. I mean, I'd probably the first one that'd deluser 50% and more of the members here, including some mods, if I'd get the chance, because they ****ed me off in one way or another, but hell, ignoring threads is something you can learn, because I managed it too.

MxxCon wants the quality of post improved?

I almost choked on my cornflakes.

I understand the IPB 2.00 will allow people to have more customization. Perhaps then you could exclude GD, MM, RWI, Soapbox and whatever else annoys you from the "Active Posts" listing.

I might very well keep those groups and exclude all the hardware crud.

On the issue of immature threads. You can't legislate good taste. You can ask, however, that they follow the rules and use descriptive thread titles. That does annoy me a little (poorly described threads, that is).

Bearded Kirklander, if i wanted to, i'd make my own board. but this isn't want i'm talking about. i am moderator on 2 other msgboards and things run there very smoothly according to my and other moderator rules, thank you very much.

xStainDx, [saint dark] asked me a question and i answered. it was exactly that.

yes i left neowin, but it wasn't for a day. and i'm not "addicted" to neowin.

again, if you people read every other line, I DO NOT "HATE" NEOWIN.

when you critisize something it doesn't mean you hate it. if you watch a movie or play a game and you review it, you give it 80% or 95% or 60% it doesn't mean you hate it. anything above 50% means you like more than you dislike so in no way it means "hate".

Ok.

So if you are not happy and they are not willing to change the site, why continue to return?

I'm not saying you don't have a right to, but why would you want to, especially after they have told you that it is not going to change? Isn't there a point where you just have to move on and let it go? Or are you so invested in the site that you still want to try to change it even when there is no chance of that happening? Is it one of those "Fight the good fight" things? Is it worth all the upset?

I was serious and honest. My questions were perfectly legit. I was only concerned about myself but yet knew something like farting was not an issue to waste my time to bother going out to see a doctor. :) And I solved it thanks to the help of some members. (Y) It turned about being something I was eatting very often as well as sometimes not eatting often.

Once again Neowin is a helpful informative community. You can't please everyone. Just don't read threads you know will bother you. If you have issues with a member you very well know you don't like, than don't bother going into there threads. It amazes me how impossible that appears to some people. If you accidentally stumble into their threads, click the damned back button! :p

well i am sorry MxxCon but neowin is not a tech forum.

neowin is a forum, that has something for everyone that is why it is soo big.

the answer to your problem is simple, stay out of the general discussion and MM. if you do this not only will you be a lot happier but everyone else will be happier too.

MxxCon does tend to have some good points every so often. Sometimes when he complains (for lack of a better word) about something it's for a good reason. I could actually agree with him once in a while. I have nothing against him. When you're a member on a forum for a long enough time you do tend to see almost everything imaginable and it makes you wonder what happened to the site and why it's not the same any more. You start to miss the old and hate the new. Time passes and change occurs, you just have to get used to it.

But just remember how easy topics tend to go off topic and eventually wind up closed in a short time anyway. And if it appears offensive and inappropriate, than report it and the mods will decide it's fate.

I guess the way we should look at it is this, Neowin needs to make money to keep alive from ads and the new email. So What brings in the money? Members and if we restrict the board to just tech related stuff we will lose members, and money from ads. And the board could collapse because of that. I don?t know im undecided.

Whatever keeps members happy.

EDIT// someone fix matt74441 flaming before this turns into a flaming thread.

I didn't realize I was flaming. I think it was a very valid point, but I'll leave it to the moderator's discretion.

i know you were serious, ryan. i had to try to make light of what he cited because imo there was no reason to complain about any of the posts.:):)

as for the tooting, every person that i know who has gone veggie toots up a storm and it's very unpleasant

The quality of posts on this board has definitely gone down since I've been a member. We didn't used to have these "x000 congrats" threads or "should i grow my hair long" polls. It really makes the board look very tacky. What this board majoring needs is a way to filter out all the crap threads when someone clicks "View New".

No problem Anita. My post wasn't directed towards you. ;) All though I'm not a vegeterian and should probably be lucky for it if the farting is worse if you're one. :p

I think that would be a GREAT feature to add to the Forum Software. I asked earlier but have not yet got an answer as to whether it is a possible feature that may be coming.

If you could check a box and exclude forums from being included in the "View New Posts" and in searches, I think they could make about everybody happy. (Y)

Here's a thread I made on the topic in the Invision Board's.. board.

http://forums.invisionpower.com/index.php?...T&f=30&t=124405

If enough people respond showing their support perhaps we can get the ball rolling.

Any new features that could be implemented to the board will have to wait until IPB 2.0 comes out and we upgrade to it. Or so I've heard. The admins and mods want to wait. Afaik, nothing new will be coming to Neowin until we upgrade to IPB 2.0.

Just give me a break. Why do you bother reading the threads if you don't like it? The whole idea of Neowin is being a community, not an elitist group of tech geeks who only discuss technology all day long. That would get tedious and monotonous. I don't like the Real World Issues forum and guess what? I just don't visit it. Learn to do the same instead of looking to pick fights with everyone and anyone you deem "stupid." We should be here to encourage the growth of knowledge in each other, not bash those who know less than us.

I have no idea what your problem is again and why suddenly you decide you need to attack the staff here too, but you need to calm down and take a step back and think things through a little more. You are just being petty now. You are not forced to click on a link and are not forced to read a "stupid" thread. Grow up.

I agree. I stay out of the areas I don't like or have any interest to know about. Like RWI, Apple Mac, Linux areas for example.

ARRGGGH, EVERYONE STOP ARGUING! This is a forum, a place to put forward opinions, advice, queries of all orientations, not just technical, not just about cheese, about everything, if you think a thread is boring or insulting then leave it. Why make life complicated for no reason, there's no point in discussing whether certain posts have the right to be applied, JUST DON'T read them.

when you click "Forums" link there should be 2 choices:

Computers/Tech

and

Everything Else

i'll have no problems if "general discussion" in 'Everything Else' forum will have questions on how often people clip their toe nails or if they buy tshirts w/ no-itch tags.

and then we(or at least me) will have our computers related "general discussion"

Well in that case take it up with Neowin administrators, don't discuss it in a thread because that will get you no-where but the fact is there are alot of people who are happy with this forum, I am a new user and I think it is okay as it is, I like tech aswell but it does get monotonus and boring sometimes, it's just funny to read some posts and have an input with somebodies decision. A forum is also for socialising not just pure tech, otherwise I think you'd find that this forum would no longer have as many members, if you want a forum such that it has subcategories and well organised structure then try Futuremark
