macmax
I thought if google comes out with an Instant Messenging service just 2 add to their GMAIL experience it would be gr8 ... I would blindly ditch MSN .... even if they Upp their accounts to 100MB/1GB (watever) ---- i personally think tat an Instant messenger will hit the final nail in msn's coffin .... i hate msn cos 80% emails i receive there is JUNk .... sjiggag23
haha, i was just thinking the same thing yesterday. every good/famous email has its own messenger. aol, yahoo, msn.....
CatnipOligarchy
IM is different than email.. for me its not about which one has the best features, its which one all my friends use. AIM is the thing around here. no one uses msn or yahoo IM.. so i have no reason to. i like aim just fine, and i see no reason to switch, or to try to convince my buddy list to switch should a google IM come out.. one of these days all the clients will be cross-compatible, like email.. that will be a good day
Tiftof
like already: not everybody would just switch im application. I just make a .net passport for my gmail. I think I'll be one off the few on my list using gmail.

kitchenutensils
google is the most popular site pretty much anyway, not everyone will even get gmail, but the right marketing (ie. gmail im - where all your friends are at) would get them somewhere. unfortuneately i can't see this happening tho :(

I can't stand AIM, it has to be the worst IM app there is. Yuck its gross. Well maybe ICQ is worse but there both bad. If Gmessenger did come out id try my hardest to get all my friends to use Gmessenger but I dout they would change as its jsuta huge hassel to change. Tiftof
google developing an im app wouldn't have anything to do anymore with google itself. google uses it's search power in all it's services. I can't think of a use of google search in im
[ timko ]
Next for Google? Anything is possible for Google, just wait until after their floatation on the stock market and then some BIGGER things will start happening withing a few years

ChrisArr
As long as somebody could h4x0r the protocol to be used with a proper multi-client messenger, I would activate it if people I knew were on it. I am perfectly content with MSN and I don't need a frivolous feature like searching my conversation history so there is little they could do with their technology that would matter to me. For what it's worth, I only IM people I know in real life and there seems to be a consensus of MSN being the choice.
