session
What do you guys think, if, for example, Microsoft is no more - do you think they'll release Windows for public and make it open source? Or Windows would die with Microsoft? I'm a both PC and Mac user - you never know what's going to happen to Microsoft in 2-3 years, especially when Longhorn is delay so much. session
well, i have a question. i don't see why i can't ask while this is totally reasonable and possible - while microsoft keeps delaying longhorn and they haven't had any major os update since 2001. maybe they will lost some market during this time

DevilsJim89
Well Microsoft won't die anytime soon, they are too damn rich and successful. But if they did die, I'm sure they would take Windows and everything else with it. Hell, they get ****ed off when they see old Windows version up for download. area91
I dont see Microsoft letting there majority lower that much, they also got $46 billion to spend in cash reserves (god only knowes about how much they own in other companies), plus Gates could prop them up for a while. ChrisArr
No kidding. Microsoft is presently in no danger of even losing much market share on the desktop in the next few years at all. If it's an Apple rah rah thing, go ahead and look at their own numbers. They're not a threat to Microsoft at this point nor have they been for nearly a decade. To play into the theoritical question, if they did go down, there would be no way that they could stop people from using the copies of Windows that already exist anyway. The use of the product would eventually dwindle, and OEMs would have to find something else, but the inertia that Windows has will not be halted so easily, which, conveniently, ensures that Microsoft has a long future ahead of it. radioboy
area91, get bent if you dont have anything useful to contribute to the discussion, then just shut up the whole point of this thread was to make fun of someone who asked the opposite in the mac forum (oh nos! longhorn is going to kill teh appl3!11!! lololol) IMHO both should be locked

matt74441
Microsoft will be fine. As long as new PC's like from Dell, HP and all the others continue to be produced, then they'll continue racking in the cash. Not to mention their Server products, which probably rake in more. ZiGGA
Only a mac fanboy would start a thread like this. Maybe one day Mac will take over cos that's what all Mac Users want, who gives a toss.. aslong as my pc works I'm happy. If Microsoft fell through Windows would fall through, simple as that. But reality check, it just won't happen, far too rich and far too successful to collapse. Make a topic about something realistic.

session
@nuka-T: Obviously you haven't had a chance to read my fascinating research before we decided to leave A91 and his dog alone. Well, let area91 tell you his interesting story! And, Office and Windows are MS's strongest products. Having no update for 3~5 (6 or 7 or 8?) years surely affects MS somehow! Microsoft, apparently, is trying to build a strong and reliable OS. We all know this isn't happening in the first try. I don't see how better Longhorn will be for its first version. It surely will after a few updates or SPs tho  @sumeet: you were joking, but i meant it when i made that post @area91: read if you can, otherwise people are gonna think you not only don't know your age but also can't read. I said clearly that I'm a mac and a pc user. Which part of that statement don't you understand? Plus, 1 more case of insulting people! and as i said, stop flaming or watch out! area91
stop flaming or watch out! Do you think you scare me? I'd switch to Mac, if all the Mac fanboys would loose there arrogance. But that isn?t happening any time soon.
shihchiun
maybe they will lost some market during this time what's a few percent to them anyway? besides, most users could care less what operating system they have, as long as it works.
