You notice that there aren't a whole lot of symbols to choose from. The "crystal ball" is simply doing some lucky guesses, and if you count the number of symbols used (I'm not going to) I think you'll find that the probability of it guessing the "correct" symbol is actually quite high. Sorry to ruin the fun, everybody <goes back into the Cave where Fun Isn't Allowed>

you notice, that the symbols change, everytime you try again.

And there are quite a few symbols..and it happens everytime so..its not just luck.

You're right; I think that you will find that, mathematically, if you do what he said and use the "recommended" method to find the number, it will be only one of several symbols (possibly only one). This certainly narrows down the number of "choices" for the ball, doesn't it? ;)

Edit: in fact, doing several numbers and looking up the symbols, I always get the same symbol no matter what I choose; there may be several possible symbols that one can get, but it is simply a mathematical trick that looks like "magic." Try it yourself and see how often you can calculate one symbol by guessing a wide range of numbers.

Yep, try numbers 4 and 3, that makes 36 right? try the same number agin, and again,... weird! I need some sleep, maybe this id all just a dream...

It worked on the first try but missed on the 2nd and 3rd. Math puzzles are not my game but it's just another number cruncher...

EDIT: Read the solution and I guessed correctly. It's a number game. Wish I could do math to see though these tricks. Great for the unlearned!

99, 98, 97 and etc should be the same cuz 99-18 98-17 97-16 always comes down to 81.. most of the numnbers equals the same number.. thats why some times it guesses wrong. some of the symbols wil never show up or show up once every 9 times

It should never guess incorrectly; if it does, it means that you did the math incorrectly. The "game" is designed so that it will always guess the correct symbol

Starting from 9, every multiple of 9 is the same symbol upto and including 81. You'll always pick a multiple of 9 between 9 and 81 because:

say you pick a number with two digits, the power of 10 digit being x, and the unit being y.

so for 23, x = 2 and y = 3

23 = 10x + y

now when you add the two digits together, you get x + y

when you subtract the sum from the original number you get:

10x + y - (x + y)

10x + y - x - y

9x

Since the x can only be from 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 you have a range of between 9 and 81.

Dude there is NO way it can miss - if you think it did, you did not follow the instructions correctly ;)

It's not a puzzle - its simple addition and subtraction. Which since it did not work for, must be too complicated for you to figure out?? ;)

No matter what 2 digit number you pick - there is only nine outcomes 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72, 81

Notice that all nice of those numbers is the same symbol ;) So how could it miss, unless you do not know how to add and subtract - heheheh
