Guest bartekpl
I was wondering if it's worth switching from windows to mac? I would get the latest system with the newest mac osx would i like it or run back to windows im very concerned with compatability.....

gawdflesh
What you have right now is good for that...I don't see what you *need* a Mac for if that's all you do with your system. Why not just be content with what you have? Seems like you don't have a very compelling reason to switch other than the urge to try something new, and if that's all it is, then go ahead and do it. But don't be surprised if 6 months to a year from now you're asking the same question, reversed.
VGVL
For what you want to do, a 700Mhz G4 would be good. However, if you want something high end you might want to look into getting a PowerMac G5. Either that or a nice iMac if you're willing to wait until WWDC (I'm pretty sure the iMacs will be updated at WWDC).
Soviet
We have some really nice macs at work.. for doing orders and stuff... they make me use them to find my orders and print them out... Then i feel the need to shoot myself or run home and use a PC to steralize all those bad mac germs.. :x But that's just me.. Should be fine for what you use it for. null_
A 600MHz G3 or G4 would probably do what you want, but seeing as you want high end.. A nice G5 Power Mac, a maxed out iMac or PowerBook.. really the choice is up to you if you decide to purchase in the end.

But if speed isn't your top priority you might want to consider getting an Apple Notebook. A maxed out iBook or a PowerBook. (They're not the fastest Macs, but they're still VERY fast though). ;)

It just works! For about anything (almost) you can do on Windows, there's a way to do it on a Mac, sometimes a lot easier (or prettier). That's not to say a Mac is perfect, but I love my 800MHz iBook G4...it's wicked! I can't wait for Powerbook G5s to come out!

MxxCon
why don't you just use PearPC emulator? that way you'll just have to buy OSX, and won't have to pay for insanely overpriced hardware. then after a week you'll realize that osx is the exactly same thing as windows with just different icons and it wasn't worth wasting so much money on it's license. QuantumTrickery
Sounds like someone who has never spent any time around a mac, not to mention someone who is entirely biased. I have both a mac and a pc myself. My PC finds itself mostly being used as a gaming machine, which it really excels at. My mac is my multimedia wonderland. I use it extensively for digital photography editing, music creation, movie editing graphic design etc. I've spent quite a few years now, and its a night and day difference for me. Each has its strengths, and its weaknesses. To say windows and osx are the same with different, except for icons and price, is nothing but total ignorance. Though i must admit you made me laugh for a bit, so thank you :) . And well, following your theory, we must consider that all computers are...the same as Windows-based? That's a killer...go you... P.S. By the way, where did you get yourself them orange hens? I'd so love to have myself one as well :D
tristan.oneil
I don't really like apple notebooks, because they scratch easily, there nice, but they scratch very easily, and the powerbooks, can get dings.
VGVL
Are the apple laptops better?? Yes. You have to decide by yourself wether you want an iBook or PowerBook though. The best thing to do would be to go to an Apple Store and test them out, so you can see which one you like better. I'm thinking a 12" iBook should be more than enough for what you want to do, but the PowerBooks sure look nicer and are faster. You'll be well off with a 12" iBook or any PowerBook (12", 15", or 17", take your pick), but whatever you do do not get the 14" iBook! It's ugly! :x
macster
A 12/15 inch Powerbook should should your needs fine. Btw MxxCon try to calm down and think carefully
QuantumTrickery
No kidding, MxxCon is nothing but a hateful little troll. People come here to offer their opinions on products they own. The thread starter came here and asked for information on Macs, so I offered him my experiences and what I use it for. Most people who come here are looking for some answers to questions and recommendations, not some obviously clueless comments from someone whose only purpose is to sh*t on people every chance they get. I'd recommend you check out the apple lineup in one of the computer stores. They usually have some decent demos setup and will give you a good feel about what you are getting into. neowin_hipster
because they scratch easily The ibooks don't. the newer powerbooks don't easily. I say for what you want to do go with a laptop. A 12" ibook or powerbook would really nice and portable too. With wireless it would be cool. But seing as how you got a perfectly good machine that seems relatively new, why get a new computer?
