Notsnarc
MSN = MicroSoft Network]Microsoft = windows lol so msn= microsoft network microsoft = windows thus msn = windows network windows network = wdn hmm, that a crummy name but seriously people I may be crazy but I'm right, lol, there's been books written on microsoft's fall, I'm just saying who is gonna take it's place, funny none of you can name anyone else to take it's place it's like when nothing appears where air was, everything else rushes in, I'm merely saying that google will rush in, because no other company is in a position to, and microsoft will fall in the next 10 years, much evidence on that, but i don't feel like getting into it
todd
I dont think so, but i wouldnt be surprised if they had their own os to power their search engine/bot.. it would provide optimal service if they did it all themselves

Nathan
As already said - Perhaps a linux distro, but a fully fledged brand new OS? That I've gotta see.. Notsnarc
no mircosoft has 10 years left 15 max, read one of the freakin huge websites on it or millions of articles, or hundreds of books btw I found an article supporting me, only I'm taking want this guy is saying to the next level http://www.kottke.org/03/02/google-is-not-a-search-company

They can't compete with Longhorn or even Linux from scratch, unless they have thousands of people developing actively on it. they already have the "google OS" as many call it which is their system of linking all their servers into one supercomputer they have about 1/4 fourth of the programmers already in 5 years they will have almost all of the needed ones mark my words, but if I see any of you in 5 years I'll be saying I told you so
Nollog
Google? will never make an OS. The programmers they hire are there to build on the search algorithms and give Google? a larger base (Froogle?, and the other themed searches it has) Yea, they made a toolbar and now they're making a search for PCs but that's just like Froogle?, expanding their base customers. Anyway, the appeal of Google? is the lack of massive full page ads which distort the text which you came looking for and the fact that if you seach something, it'll return a result before your funeral (unless you die straight after pressing the enter key and fall down a hole while everyone around you says "It'll do!") My:Dpinion :D EDIT1... Who'll suceed Microsoft? Lindows had a deal with Walmart or someone at some stage to ship their OS OEM Or maybe a programmer is looking at his/her windows desktop right now thinking "I'm gona do it! I'll be Bill/Wilma Gates 2" Again, M:blink:on  EDIT2... It only takes one person to create a program, so why not OS's, sure it'll take a few years and the only money they'll spend is on books on machine language, assembly, coffee, food and electricity. Microsoft is entering an age of uncertainty... People are begining to become computer literate and MS will have some trouble if "longhorn" is as buggy as XP. It's OEM presence will fall shortly and maybe businesses will give consumers a choice. If the game companies and App companies would do more to make their software platform independent then you'll see copies of windows flying out the ( somewhat ironically ) windows. My Opinion and my last edit, this post is getting pretty big, I'll start new nex:woot:... :woot: Edited June 21, 2004 by Nollog
Notsnarc
lol, the age of inventors is over, their won't be another Bill Gates a single person cannot make a revoulutnary OS (though someone may make some revolutionary change for linux) but anyways in order to build an OS you need cash, in order for it to be succesful you need a rep, google has and will have both, it's still building it's base but 5 years from now it will be ripe time for it to make an OS

Microsoft has a 95%+ market share on desktop computers. Microsoft has a good piece of the server market (25% - 50%). Microsoft's pocket pc operating systems are outselling palm based PDAs (plam based PDAs are also falling). Microsoft's Office has about 90%+ of its respective market. Microsoft's internet explorer has about 90% ofs its respective market as well. MSN finally started making money last year (a little, but finally). They have $53 billion+ in the bank, loads more in stock value, plus bill gates' $46 billion+ like i said, it is pure wishful thinking on your part. i dont think that any company can replace microsoft. they will be around for a very, very, very loooooong time.
