blog is really a place where people can vent. Well atleast that is 90% of all the logs. Other blogs or weblogs are used to talk about products they are developing, editorials and what not but really again most blogs are because no friend or no family member wants to listen to your crap and you publish on the web so other people can read it heh.

I don't consider my blog a "blog." It's more of a journal. A place to vent, release my everyday life to the world, and sometimes inform. Unless somebody has a knack for words and humor, a plain blog is usually boring. Images (eg. webcam) usually spice things up. Or having a portfolio site with a personal blog is also nice.

To me Blogging is just an easier way to put text and sometimes images up on a web page. It's like filling out this reply in a form window instead of having to code the HTML yourself.

Most people seem to use blogs like daily diary entries. Some sites use that technique for news updates though.

I think I'd rather HTML code my own text if I had something to say. But maybe that is because that is what I'm used to. Blogging seems like an entry level way to get your text up on the web for people to read, which is fine I guess.

I don't think that's true in many/all cases. Many people put them with their websites as the kind of update page, if they only know basic html etc, not php or some other scripting language.

Most news scripts are PHP with the exception of good perl ones like MovableType. So it does require some php knowledge or time to learn.

I'm not against blogging at all. I just like HTML better.

As it is, so many sites are looking the same, what with the same layout and all. There is a startling lack of originality going on, eh?

If blogging helps get n00bs active on the internet, I'm all for it. People have a right to be heard and to express their thoughts and opinions if they want to. If they can't figure HTML and a blog helps, why not? Spymac has a free blogging thing, and that is pretty cool. There are other free blog hosts, right? Nothing wrong with that either. I like that people are active and the barriers to tech have been lowered. Blogging is cool (Y) and I hope it stays around. But I also hope some people take time to learn a bit about basic HTML stuff so they can eventually add a little character to their site and their posts.

Not all blogs are hosted. Some are actual scripts which require more than just HTML. Such as PHP, Perl, SSI, CSS, etc. Therefor, you can't stereotype every person who has a blog as a n00b. Blogging software is also a faster means of getting the content on the site without having to mess with the html code. Just because you are good with HTML doesn't make you a better web designer either.

As far as originality goes, there are billions of webpages on the internet. Pretty hard to be original when you won't be able to see every webpage in your lifetime. Just like clothing trends...there are internet trends. It comes and it fades.
