Captain Phatty
?I?ve seen some ?marketing research? that TechTV is doing recently, that I thought I would share with you since it seems genius to me, but correct me if I am wrong. You get to enter into a contest they are having multiple times a day, by watching their show and when you see a ?code? that they have on the screen during viewing hours, you go to the website and enter that code. TechTV knows exactly what code they put on the air, and when. You want to enter their ?contest?, which is a cash prize to buy all kinds of electronic equipment you want to buy, ?woo hoo?! More on the cash prize in a moment. So you sign up for their contest and give them personal information, which is ?required?, because they have to be able to deliver your prize to you if you win, and this prize is more incentive for you to give them the actual information as well, instead of a fake address, etc. So this personal information, probably your name, address, possibly some demographic information if the company was smart enough to ask for it, is tied to your login when you enter a code. So now you can put the pieces together in this nice ?scheme?. They give you a code that they know exactly when it airs, you enter it into their website, and now they know exactly how often you watch their network, and who you are, and can actually start building analysis of this data, and turn around and give you tailored advertising, which is something we all know we need more of (ha!) So, as the TechTV marketing people, who are trying to get advertisers to give them money, you can now offer the client the ability to target specific viewers. This ability in turn will therefore theoretical allow the clients advertisements to be seen by potential consumers, which turns into sales. So back to the ?cash prize? TechTV is giving away. Its a $100,000 cash prize (just 1 prize), which is probably chump change in the corporate advertising market, compared to what corporations are spending these days of advertising. Just another genius part of the ?scheme?, which I think is awesome. :)st a rant/analysis, don?t mind me :) Would love to hear your guys take on this.
