.will
i think/hope that gmail adds the ability to compose html messages (rich text editor) and a larger attachment size.
Marshalus Veteran Posted June 24, 2004 Veteran Share Posted June 24, 2004 I think gmail has a lot of work to do before it goes into a mainstream email system. It still lacks a lot of the goodies that other email providers have.
xplatinum
I think gmail has a lot of work to do before it goes into a mainstream email system. It still lacks a lot of the goodies that other email providers have. The interface could also be greatly improved. Its refreshing that a web-based email provider uses mostly text but I'm sure it could better layed-out.

Markko
I love Gmail, and by the time they get some of the extra features in, it should be great!
betasp
I think IMAP access would be great.... I even thought of a way for google to make money. Convert all incoming email to HTML and place the small ads at te bottoms of the mail instead for the right side... or format the mail so it looks like a gmail page... or, well you get the idea. This way we get the 1gig and IMAP access and google gets to place ads so they can make money and continue a good service.

forum
I dont think GMail will be dissappearing anytime soon. Alot of Gmail's popularity comes from their websearch (of course), and since I use it almost everyday, im glad to support Google by using GMail. They are a great company, and I hope to be using their service for a long time.

lwebster_2000
bit off topic but isnt it strange how everyone seems to love google/gmail yet hate another large company such as microsoft. maybe its that google is user free and microsoft charge the earth. maybe if office 2005 displayed adverts based on the text in your document they could charge a lot less? back on topic i personally think what gmail has introduced is quite revolutionary to the online email world. the label facility is my personal selling point of gmail: not having to file your emails in one folder but instead apply multiple topic labels for future ease of finding, plus with the kick ass google search facility to search your emails you'll never spend more than a minute looking for any email ever! yeah there are bugs and yeah there are obvious things they've missed out which i'm sure we're all emailing them making our suggestions trying to earn extra invites (i by the way was invited using the definative gmail queue here at neowin and have earnt 1 invitation this weekend! i like to think it is a reward for bug and suggestion reporting i've been doing). personally i beleive gmail will eventually, maybe in upto a year, go live to the public. The infrastructure costs to set up this increasingly large beta test must be tremendous - servers, staffing, designers, additional office space and who knows what else. I dont think they would invest so heavily as a mere 'experiment' to see what the others would do and then just pack up and go. Also i think the 1gig will stay as google have effectivley shot themselves in the foot due to msn and yahoo introducing 250 and 100 meg services for free - if google knock there number back then people will ask why go google when these other more established services offer the same, and dont scan my emails for advertising purposes. Nathan
...everyone seems to love google/gmail... Err, have you not seen the privacy issues that have arrised? ... And an off topic shameless plug - why not post at Google Boards (see sig) if you don't want the "another gmail spam thread" question... :p (Sorry mods, couldn't help myself). csabo2
they can offer you a TB of space, its a business move, they know no one will ever use 1GB of space, considering the average email is what ? 3KB. it just makes people feel better knowing they can use that much. hell ive had my hotmail account for years and i get 70+ spam a day, and ive never even used 50% of my space on there.
