Ideas to reduce computer usage?

Recommended Posts

I was gonna write a really long detailed post but frankly I cant be bothered. Im just looking for serious and realistic ideas on reducing the time I spend in front of the computer so I can concentrate on advancing my music skills. Things like throwing away the power plug or removing the hard disk doesnt work because I still need to have use of my email, and msn for keeping in contact with some people. I think im looking for psychological ideas here rather than physical ones. The reason I need these ideas is because the computer is far too distracting and is keeping me away from things that are far more important.

Sheer power of will. Thats all any human needs. Set a goal and just do it, don't question it , just do it. Get mad at your self if you have to, it all comes down to self discpline. The computer only rules your life if you let it. Same with drugs, drinking etc... If your having a hard time completing something or following through to the end, mabe it's time your take a step back and look at your self and your life as a whole.

Agreed, if you use the comp when you odn't need it then get a friend to push you down 3 flights of stairs.

Hmm, instead of being away from the computer, do your music WITH the computer... you know, record onto the computer, edit it, etc etc.

sounds like sound advice, thanks. my computer doesnt rule my life by any stretch of the imagination, however it does tend to rule my housetime, i.e. if im at home im generally in front of the computer because my music, games, shopping etc is all here. I want to spend less time in front of the pc when im at home and spend it doing other things, mainly practising music.

I'm with MrMunka on this, just tell yourself what you want to do, if you find yourself drifting back to the machine, slap yourself on the wrist and find something else to do... getting out of the house helps a LOT. Even if it's only to walk around the block or something.

And finding a good book doesn't hurt... or taking up models or something...

ROFL! Thats a bit drastic but yes, sometimes help from another person, a little encouragment can help set you in the right direction. Becareful though, don't use them as a crutch, but as a re-enforment and encouragment.

How about this;

Play music, get more sex

Go on net, have less sex

No ones gonna discover you behind a computer, so go out there and be discovered.
