best of luck to you, of course it'd be better to stay in college, but hell, if you're getting ****ed off with it, don't waste your life, i did a similar thing a while ago (but dropped out after 2 months, got bored with key skills* etc)

and remember kids, not everyone gets on witha classroom enviroment, i know i can't work in one

either way, best of luck, hold the electrickery works out.

*for those who don't know, "key skills" is basically compulsory english, maths and I.T lessons, no matter what your skill level, or knowledge in each subject, you gotta do it

Hmm .. Let's see. ?130/week, minus tax, about ?100 a week, ?400/month, ?2400 for first six months. ?170/week, minus tax, ?135. ?540/month. That's ?5640 for your first year. For a full time job/apprenticeship/whatever, this is absolutely shameful.

?210 x 6 = ?1260

?250 x 6 = ?1500

?290 x 6 = ?1740

?330 x 6 = ?1980

In total, over the course of the three years, you will earn a mere ?12120 pre tax. Give or take, you will earn ?9,500 post tax over the three years. ?3200 per year.

And before you say you won't be paying tax: You will. Tax bands in most professions are now as low as ?3000 gross.

At 18, I got a position as an Export Broker for the world's largest courier company simply by being at university. I worked 20 hours a week for three times what you would get on a full time apprecenticeship. Why? Vision. University allows you to value the money you earn much more than dropping out and spending it all on drink. ?130 a week, with driving, car insurance, tax, servicing, going out, enjoying yourself, buying clothes, software, computer parts ... is going to leave you hopelessly in debt.

Stay in school.

yeah, it can be hell, and i know a lot of people just can't handle classrooms (often because of an undiagnosed/untreated condition like ADD)

going to school doesn't meen you'll do well, knowing stuff most people don't is where it's at

don't drop out if you might regret it later. truly consider this decision and talk to others to get more opinions. there may be other solutions that don't involve dropping out.

If you knew how i felt about college, then i wouldnt bet on it.

yea man, look..

anyone in school is unhappy with it, anyone in college/univeristy is unhappy with it unless if he/she chose the department they really like..

you just have to continue to get your certificate or whatever you get at the end, and you'll benefit from that in your steady job later..

If you just leave, you're gonna regret it and you'll just work part-time jobs all your life n stuff that dont need any certifications..

I realise it isnt the best job in the world, but trust me, my dad knows a few electricians and they are rolling in it, they work for companies and also do little jobs on the side when they arent working for extra money.

That may be, but I'll bet those electricians either fnished school or have been electricians for eons. Some company isn't going to hire a flunkie electrician. Bad move (N)

I finished high school, college isnt compulsary here. Two of my friends didnt go to college like me, they went straight into the apprenticeships. So at least ive got 1 year in the bag.

... of college that is. I finally decided to leave that **** hole of a place, im not returning back now, there are still 4 weeks of college, but not for me.

Im going to start an Electrician Apprenticeship this September with Glan Hafren, they have all my details and are sending out an enrollment form for me.

My mate Joe started an Electrician Apprenticeship last year, and the firm he works for is cool, so i got that number and im going to give them a ring this week to see if they have a place for me there.

The money is good aswell, ?130 a week to start off, every 6 months i get a ?40 a week raise, and its a 3 year course, so before i "graduate" from the course ill be on a nice swift ?300+ a week. Pretty decent if you ask :D :D

So now ive got over 2 months off, in which im going to get a job, learn to drive (could be driving by now, i was 17 last September), go to Reading, have partys, get dru:D :D

The 4 weeks left of college that im supposed to have are only for starting next years courses, only 1 of my 3 subjects is a 2 year course, so id basically be starting next years courses for no point. I wanted to drop out of college last November, but i decided to stick it through and do my exams, i did and i cannot take 1 more day in that place.

4 weeks ?;) ;) cant u just w8

Electrctians and plumbers are in short supply.

I saw a program on TV a few weeks ago about people leaving their jobs in the city to become plumbers as there is more money in it.

I think its a good choice to make at the moment.

I hope it's a good new start for you, Kriz.

Like you, I have quit school (Uni) too but it's because of my health. And right now, I am working, sometimes taking night class. Hopefully I'll return to Uni someday... But then, work has taught me a lot of things and I find that I have matured during the process. I hope that it will be the same for you and best of luck to you
