mick0142
I went with my girlfriend to Walmart yesterday, as she wanted to buy a treadmill, but didn't want to spend over $1000, she used her visa CREDIT card. when we returned home, her dad said there was a message on the answering maching from visa and that she was to call them back(we figured it was them checking that the abnormally large purchase wasn't due to a stolen card.). The message on the machine said it was a lady from Visa fraud pervention (although she did screw up the title once... "this is (some name) from visa f.. excuse me, visa fruad pervention), however, they said it was about her visa CHECK card (she hasn't used her check card for more than an atm and a shoe purchase lately) .they gave her a number and she called it. it was an automated message and asked for her acct number, her last 4 digits of her social security, and then her birthday... that is when she got suspicious, and hung up... i did a lookup on the number and it didn't go to anything (according to google) this is when i found out the the call origionated form an unavailable number (i assumed the caller id said visa by the way her dad mentioned it) at this point my girlfriend started to panic, so we called visa and her bank, and neither (although we couldn't get ahold of a human) seemed to reference the number that they gave her. i told her to report her card as stolen, as this was most likely a scam, and she did.. her dad did get ahold of a human at the number that the answering machine told her to call, but they just took him in a circle and got nowhere. now it is entirely possible that everything was legitamit, however everything seems fishy to me. the moral: check out as much as you can before you give out any info on yourself. this is the 2nd time in 6 months she has had a scam attempt on her. shihchiun
if it was real they would have just asked if you had purchased the thing, not for your account information.
