xcommander
Well it appears that Neowin is frozen in time for my laptop (currently writing from my desktop). Ever since June 20th, there have been no new news posts being displayed on the main page (although I know there is news). All other webpages load correctly and are up todate, it just appears to be Neowin. When I try to access the forums, it gives me this error: Warning: load_template(./skin_cache/cacheid_/skin_global.php): faled to open stream: no such file or directory in /home/neowin/public_html/forum/sources/functions.php on line 367 Any help would be appreciated :)

xcommander
No refrences to neowin in my hostfile.. can get to the site perfectly fine (checked to see if it was connecting to the site through Outpost), but it just dosn't seem update... I can even click on view this weeks headlines and see everything up to today's date, but there are no news posts under the date categories. Its weird too because I tried using opera, and firefox, both have the same problem... Edited June 23, 2004 by xcommander

Bearded Kirklander
Strange. I would have thought a temp file or cache problem. If you have run your disk doctor/disk fixing programs and fixed anything that was wrong and then defragged and rebooted and it still happens, a format and re-install may be worth it. EmuZombie Veteran Posted June 23, 2004 Veteran Share Posted June 23, 2004 if you're using Windows NT,2000,XP in the command prompt type ipconfig /flushdns
xcommander
Tried the dns flush, but still getting the same problem. The lastest news article is on Cisco's self-defending network development... (more info: both my desktop and my laptop are on the same router)
dacris2000
Are you connecting to the Internet through a proxy server? Perhaps the proxy server has a cache that needs to be cleared out?
WishX
It might be your ISP. Most major ISPs have Cache Servers that download the entire contents of popular pages and fire them off to you from their cache servers, not from the actual page itself. This improves download time for the end user and saves the ISP a bit of bandwidth, but it isn't flawless. This can be a problem if their cache servers don't update regularly. I used to work tech support for Adelphia's Powerlink Broadband and I've seen this happen several times. You might want to give your ISP a call and let them know. xcommander
The only problem is that the desktop which I'm writing from now is on the same network as the laptop (going through the same router) to connect via pppoe. Also both systems are running Outpost 2.1, McAfee, Spybot 1.2, and SP2 RC2.
Joel
If you're using SP2, check your firewall settings. Turn off the ICF if necessary to test. Mine wouldn't send using Outlook, so I can attest to at least 1 bug in RC2.

Adrian
Have you tried clearing the DNS Cache on Outpost?
configure Veteran Posted June 24, 2004 Veteran Share Posted June 24, 2004 To isolate the DNS issue possibility, do a forward DNS lookup using nslookup on neowin.net and match that with the IP that you are getting from your desktop.
xcommander
Yup Adrian got it :D thanks a lot, totally forgot that outpost had that feature, had is set to renew every 7 days, but it would have been driving me crazy until then! Thanks!
KC
I got that exact same error, around the same time as xcommander. At first I thought it was a just a site issue but then, the next day it still didn't work! Didn't have time to deal with it but did some search's figuring other sites would be reporting on this massive multiday outage. NOTHING was freaky. Then I remembered that along along time ago I added neowin.net to my hosts files.............I knew back then it would bite me in my ass.
