ootput
Due to certain disputes, I've decided to leave the Short-Media.com community. As much as I will miss Short-medias folding team (a great bunch of guys that I've personally met,) I'm looking for a new team to join. I have a folding-farm that comprises of 11 odd machines that has been solely running Slackware + Folding@Home client. All I need now is a new team # to get things going again. Hurmoth
Folding is distributed processing. It is through Stanford University, allowing them to use your processor while it is not in use! http://folding.stanford.edu/ Edited June 23, 2004 by NeoSoft

Hurmoth
Like SETI@Home? Not sure what SETI@Home is, I'll look it up and find out. What are proteins and why do they "fold"? Proteins are biology's workhorses -- its "nanomachines." Before proteins can carry out their biochemical function, they remarkably assemble themselves, or "fold." The process of protein folding, while critical and fundamental to virtually all of biology, remains a mystery. Moreover, perhaps not surprisingly, when proteins do not fold correctly (i.e. "misfold"), there can be serious effects, including many well known diseases, such as Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, and Parkinson's disease. What does Folding@Home do? Folding@Home is a distributed computing project which studies protein folding, misfolding, aggregation, and related diseases. We use novel computational methods and large scale distributed computing, to simulate timescales thousands to millions of times longer than previously achieved. This has allowed us to simulate folding for the first time, and to now direct our approach to examine folding related disease.
ootput
/me whacks each of the above members in the dome with a leg of ham. :p Much like the Seti@home project, but with far-reaching effects. I was never really into searching for e.t.s, and I found that there was a better use for my idle cpu cycles. I know several people in this world who could benefit from the studies of this admirable project. Finding cures isn't easy, but with the help of even the modest computer user, results would be made a lot quicker. If you googled it, if you're computer is always on with no real purpose, give it a shot. Bleh, judging from your responses, I'm guessing that there isn't a team here. Tis a shame. I've helped catapult short-medias status over the years, surpassing the likes of amdmb etc. and for a great cause.

Lol looks like none of them know  , so i guess we dont. Not to advertise or anything but Hardocp.com has a nice folding team and is ontop right now but not for much longer if they dont get some more folders
Hurmoth
No, Neowin doesn't have a Folding team. I wanted to start one, but didn't have time to PM an admin to get permission. SpeedGuide #15 (Hurmoth)
ootput
Hardocp, and other overclocking sites are really competitive. Short-media joined a little late in the game, but with a strong community, managed to break the top 10 in the world. Hardocp + Australian overclockers are a great bunch of guys. Even though we fold for different teams, we all have the same goal. I regularly chat on irc with different teams, and I help develop different strategies for boosting folding membership. Folders are usually a great bunch of people. Never hesitating to help with any problem. If I can convince someone at Neowin to start a team, this would be a much better place. Overclocking is great if you need to boost a few fps here and there, but Overclocking for the good of man kind is an even stronger incentive.
